Hi, I am planning to change the brake pads for my Ford Taurus this weekend. Given that the brakes are an important part of the vehicle is it recommended that I do it or have it done by a pro! it is not the money saving factor here, but the personal satisfaction of doing things yourself which I am looking forward to.
I have seen some videos on line on "How To" and do feel confident to carry out the job.
Any comments, aggreement / disagreement, should I ? Shouldn't I? Thanks for your time.

Only you can decide whether you are capable of doing the brakes!
What is your mechanical ability/background?
What tools do you have?
Changing the brake pads is, IMHO, one of the easier maintenance items.
I can send you a PDF file of the maintenance manual procedures if you need it.

Thank you for your reply. I am able to perform mechanical / electrical / around the house kind of things. My last project was building a deck  it took me over a month but I did it. I would be interested in the pdf file as well.
Where tools goes I am planning to buy them, I have household tools but not the ones I saw on video like for the spring removal and lugnut wrench.

Ahhh, so you're planning to change the rear drum brake shoes as well? Those are not quite as straight forward as disc brake pads, but still doable.
