automatic trans

my 02 z28's automatic transmissin is acting weird. i'm guessing the clutches are slipping but i don't know much about this stuff. It won't shift into the next gear unless you let off the gas for a second, it will just rev. i'm assuming this isn't normal??

Sorry to say but sounds like it's bad. The clutches are most likely shot, and if you change the fluid you'll probably see a lot of metallic pieces floating in it.
