Taurus transmission light and problems

I have a 2002 Taurus, V6, 144000 miles. I've never had any transmission problems, no slipping, reeving etc. Today, just 30 feet from my drive way the Transmission light came on and the car went into "safe or limp" mode. One gear forward, and reverse. Fluid was low, but there, added more with no improvement. I had Auto Zone hook up tester and was told 10 or more transmission errors, all different kinds. I'm sorry I don't have them to post. My question is do you think this is an actual failure of the tranny or something electrical? I find it hard to believe it would fail all at once like that with no symptoms. Any help would be appreciated.

I would suspect something electrical, such as one of the speed sensors. Unfortunately, you'll really need the transmission codes so that you can work your way down the diagnostic steps for them.

sounds like a valve or a fues I found the 15 amp fuse used for the trans., ac clutch, and O2 sensors blown. Looks like I have a short somewhere that blew the fuse. I had a check engine light for a while and was going to look into it before this latest problem. The check engine light had been flickering the last few days. It looks like this all may be related given there are emission controls on that fuse as well. The car will manual shift all gears so it looks like it's good mechanical. I'll update when I find the short. Hope this post helps someone else in the future. Thanks.
