Did you do the base time setting.
Or just throw a timing light on it?

You have to disconnect the EST bypass wire and set time to base setting.
A good repair will manual explain the bas timing procedure.
Good Luck

ok so i continued adjusting the timing but nothing...so i was just goin to change the spark plugs but i noticed the spark wires were messed up...the shop that put in my distributor switched two wires ...so i switched them back and i started it with the old plugs but it was fine but really jerky...so i ran it and i fixed the previous problem but its really jerky so i switched the plugs but it was the same....at idle every once in a while it has a big jerk.and it died once..? could my timing just be really atdc im just new to doin my timing so idk

On the old ones with a vacuum advance you pull the hose and plug it then set the timing. I would also suggest checking the plug wires with a diagram.
After the timing is set hook up the hose for the vacuum advance.

1981-1/2 AND 82 HAVE COMPUTERS.
Older HEI dist's use the vacuum advance which as said needs to be unpluged for base timing.
