JL audio makes good speakers ........ and so do a lot of other companies. Engineers make a lot of compromises when they design a speaker - things like price, looks, reliability, sound quality, volume capability, etc .. Some engineers are just better at making compromises.

It all depends on what you are looking for and how much you are willing to spend...

i would definately recomend the jl audio w7. if you are willing to shell out the cash. they are 1000 in a box without an amp where i'm from. it is the most technologicaly advanced sub i have ever seen. I love the floating cone.:flipa:

It's all about the box. If you can make the perfect box for a particular sub, it will sound good and get loud.
Subs like the W7 aren't very picky with the type of box they go in...

the "pickyness" of a sub to a box is mostly dependent on the order of a box. A sealed box is a 1st order - can easily be off by 10% or more. Ported is 3rd order or higher ...... they require much tighter tolerances. A bandpass is basically a higher order ported - it is VERY picky about box and port sizes.
