Hey guys. So I've been a little busy out on the roads since my last post- (which got flamed like nobody's business btw ). And the title is the summary of all the cars I've had the fortune of racing. I also have video of a little bit of the accord, and one of the altimas. (And a really quick video of the SRT-4 but it's not good at all cause they required more than one hand on the steering wheel) So if you think I should post that let me know. Oh, and I coulda spread this out, but I figured I'd just put them all in one thread for space. Each race is separated by a space.
So here goes... About three weeks ago, I was driving out to visit my new girlfriend, and to get to her house takes about thirty minutes (speed limit) on I-495. Well, I'd never been on I-495 (or any interstate for that matter) and so what did I do when I saw three empty lanes for miles on that sunday morning? I floored it. And I was just chillin. After my initial burst of glee at open road, I decided to set the cruise control at 85. I was minding my own business, when all of a sudden this Blue Accord pulls past me at what must've been about 90 miles an hour. A teenage kid in the passenger seat looks over and smiles and nods at me. I nod back, and speed up to see who's driving. Well, it's a blonde woman who is clearly either this 14-year old's mom or else his aunt. She's smiling as she eases her accord over 100. The kid in the passenger seat is glued against the glass and freaking out pointing at me lol. I guess that was a fun new experience for him haha. I stay with her, until finally I just decided to leave them behind, speeding up to 140 and leaving them behind with a wave. They slowed down. I slowed down. Then traffic came up. I had forgotten all about them and had been going 85, when traffic slowed to 50. So I got in the breakdown lane (you all think about doing it, no one bitch) and proceeded to pass everyone. Just as I'm about to get out of the breakdown lane, I see the accord wayyyy in my rear-view. They're speeding up. I wait till they pass me and then I speed up till I hit like 120 and leave them behind. Then basically I kept forgetting about them, until they came up to pass and I'd let them, then speed up and leave them behind. Tag- as my friends call it. Finally I just say "alright that's enough of my gas" and after catching a quick vid of us breaking 100 I just slow down and let them go. (The whole time I was going North on 495 my best friend was going South on 495... unbeknownst to either of us... and he got into a race in his '94 paseo with a chevy nova. Not old school. One of the ones from the... eighties??? POS lol)
Anyways. Next game of tag. It was a beautiful day, I was with two of my friends, and we put the top down on the Mustang, and we were on our way to lunch in Hyannis, when I suddenly decided that it was so nice out that it made much more sense to just take my friend faster than he's ever been in a car before (it was 120 and we only got 125 with the top down but ~155 with the top up. The speedo stops at 145 but the needle kept moving and 155 is the manufacturer's listed top speed). So we're out of the highway, lovin life. Minimal traffic. No cops. When we pulled up next to a silver Altima cruisin at like 80. I pulled up to see who was driving and it was a young guy- older than me but probs in his late 20's- listening to loud rap music. He looked over and when he saw the camera my friend was holding he couldn't stop smiling. He gassed it so I did. Up to 100. I beat him pretty steadily (4-6ish car lengths?). Then I'd slow down and we'd do it again. We did that until we hit traffic then we went our separate ways.
Other accord. My friend Chris used to have this '78 Bronco that he loved to death, but the steering went on it and so now he has a 94(?) accord. It's zippy and he drives too fast anyways so he enjoys it. Well we were all going to my friend Ray's house, and he decided to slow down and go side-by-side from 30. I heard him downshift and that stupid loud muffler sounded kinda like it was gonna explode lol. He started gaining on me and I floored it, passing him and eventually putting 3-4 bus lengths on him by 120 mph. He needs to turbocharge it lol. I'll update you guys.
Next is the V6 Mustang. I was headed back onto 495 to take my girlfriend home on Monday night, and while we were going over the Bourne Bridge, some chick with her long hair flyin all out behind her whipped by me at at least 70 (40 feels scary for me on this bridge). Talking on her cell phone, with the top down. Weaving in and out of traffic (I wondered whether people got as mad at me as I got at her lol). I pulled up next to her and when she saw it was another Mustang she downshifted and tried to speed up past me. I did the same, and immediately you could tell the difference (I initially didn't know it was a V6 until I saw the grill of her car, it was a '10 but no fog lamps). I put about 1 car length on her by 100 (only from 80-100) So yeah. Weak.
Then the last is the best for me. Monday night, on my way home from my girlfriend's house, I was crossing the Sagamore bridge, when in my side mirror I see a neon with those blinding blue HED lights speeding up, and they have a big wing and a big hood scoop. "OMG an SRT-4," I thought. On Cape Cod I think I've seen one. Ever. So it was a nice little surprise. (Lol it wasn't even from Cape Cod- it had Wisconsin plates.) And since these two young guys were speeding over the bridge at an easy 90 I figured it'd be fun. I followed them into their lane, and we stayed at 90 while I got out my camera. That didn't last long, because when the hit the gas they pulled away pretty quickly and I couldn't handle the wheel and camera. So I dropped the camera and caught back up to them. They had slowed to 70 or so, and when they started taking off again I floored it and they pulled steadily away. "What is going on" I wondered, since I thought for sure that my car was statistically faster and we were just driving in a straight line. My car's an automatic, there's no way driver skill is the cause. So I pulled up next to them at 60, and I saw the driver (in the glow of his... blue neon interiors?) reach down to shift- then I remembered that someone had told me turning off my overdrive will help my acceleration- of course it does! It means I'm downshifting, just like him! So I turn it off and that little boost helps me put a car length on him by 110. we do it again, and now it's closer. Our engines roar (Well, mine more so... his is kinda like a whooshy whine I guess) and we take off again, with me having him by like 1/2 a car length as we both eased off and they gave me a wave and a high-beam flash as they turned off onto their exit.
Those are my stories. 100% true, like always. Even after getting brutally post-raped last time I shared a story, I still have massive amounts of faith in this community. So... Peace.
OH! And I learned today lol. hahahaha. Whoooo I know this isn't really funny, but I thought of this forum when Joe told me- he was doing a wheelie (it's on video, actually- pretty sweet) at like 60 mph on the highway, when he hit a manhole cover and flipped end over end like 9 times. His bike is wrecked- $2000 to fix, his helmet- which he landed directly on- is broken in half, his arm is cut up real bad, his stomach is a little messed up, and he's on crutches. That's the kid from my first thread if you don't remember . Still on his permit, mind you. So there's the story of his inexperience and idiocy coming to fruition.
Till next time...
