99 GTP Won't Start

Yesterday I cleaned out my throttle body on my 1999 GTP, and when I put the T.B. back on I used the old gasket because it looked fine. However when I tried starting the car it would not start and a little bit of coolant leaked out. I figured it was just the leak causing the problem so I went and picked up a new gasket and did it again, but I still can't get it to start. Everything has been put back on properly. I have recently replaced the plugs, wires, PCV, air and fuel filters. I figured this would be a good thing to do to keep my car running clean and strong, now she won't start....:banghead:

Any ideas on what went wrong or more importantly what would fix the problem? Thanks for any input.

Unplug the mass airflow sensor and see if it will start. There is a good possibility that you damaged the sensor when you took the throttle body off. If the sensor is bad or damaged it should start when you unplug it. Just something to try!

What solvent did you use on your throttle body?

Like GTP_Dad said, the MAF sensor is a possibility, I have also screwed up an IAC motor with carb cleaner.

Are you sure that you removed all the old gasket from the supercharger and the throttle body before you put the new gasket on? You could have a large vacuum leak.

Will you car start if you put your foot on the gas slightly?

I took of the MAF before removing the T.B. and I cleaned it too with the proper cleaner. I used Valvoline brand cleaner on the Throttle body. I've tried unplugging the MAF and it still will not start, giving it gas does nothing either. My car ran just fine before and never had a problem starting. I thought I got all the old gasket material off before putting the new one on, but I'll give it another look in the morning when I have some light to work with. Thanks for the help guys, I didn't see this as a project that could be messed up... :uhoh:

It happens.... to the best of us (Me included)

You didnt leave off that large vacuum line by mistake did you? (The one thats sort of burried under the loom of wires) I know that connection sometimes splits causing a fairly large vacuum leak.

Check to see if your fuel pump is running and that your gteeing spark. Something else might have picked that exact second to crap out on ya. Stranger things have happened.

Well, after being ready to lose my mind it's finally fixed. Apparently that coolant leak was pulled into the intake and must have locked up a cylinder or two. After I finally got my car started it was shooting white smoke for nearly 5 minutes before it went back to normal. Thanks for trying to help guys, this was a weird one. :screwy:

Hmmm, so that much coolant filled your cylinders from the leaky throttle body gasket? Thats quite a bit.

When your car "didnt start" did it not crank at all, or crank and not start?
