Wind/road noise in 96

An update to the prev. thread about getting lots of wind/road noise thru the front door on 96 Caprice, I have pretty much tried everything except actually replacing the weatherstripping and I'm still having the same problem. Have tried putting tape over the gap in the front of the w/s behind the mirror, building up the w/s around the door by putting a foam rope caulk behind it, and most recently put tape around any gaps on the outside mirror and the door handles, still same noise. You can hear everything, including water splashing when it's raining, tire noise, wind noise, etc., usually starts at about 40 mph and gets louder from there. Not specifically the tires or wind, just general outside noise, like a window was left open.

I did notice that when you turn the fan on full blast and close the door, that air is coming out of both the door handles and that corner behind the mirror, but I put tape there and it barely made any difference. Any other suggestions?

BTW, the w/s has no obvious tears or broken spots, looks OK on all doors.

if this is the driver side only compare both sides,,,,then if necessary remove both inner door panels,,,compare that everything is the same...

when the door is closed how much can you push the door inward beyond its locked position...it should only be a very small amount compare to the passenger side..

Make sure the splash shield is still installed behind the inner door panel. If someone removed the door panel to repair a window motor, latch, glass guides, or something else, they might have cut the splash shield out and not replaced it.

You can also apply silicone grease to all the weatherstripping and make sure the door is closing properly as the j-cat suggested.

yup...to me this looks like you have to check to see if the plastic noise shield is still in tact behind the door panel. It attaches to the door with this sticky black tar like substance and as someone else mentioned before this may not be in place if someone was doing any kind of work on the inside of the door. (maybe they forgot to put it back.)
