I have a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP 3800 series 2 supercharged engine. My problem is my car started & stalled within secs.Changed fuel pump, fuel filter & mass air sensor.Bent out tab 85 on fuel speed relay fuse.Ran fine for almost 2 weeks, then started stalling within secs of being started.Put new relay fuse in ,no change ,had to bend tab 85 out again to get it to stay running.Running good for now !What could be the problem? Please Help!!!!

Welcome Pontiac Girl. You have come to the right place.
Based on your symptoms, you have a bad fuel pump resistor.
You can try and find one at the dealership, but I heard of recent supply issues. GM Part number 88951182.
Or you can order one from pfyc here.....
http://www.pfyc.com/pc/WB3006/GPUNDER/Fuel+Pump+Resistor+-+Supercharged+3800.html
You will have no issues running your car with tab 85 bent out for a short time while you wait for your resistor to be shipped.
Good Luck! Please report back with your results!

Thanks alot for replying. My car was running good until this morning. The RPMs keep shooting up and it acted like it was going to die,Luckily I made it home.Anyway I just put the new fuel pump speed relay fuse ( Relay#15)(resistor)in on Sunday,I had to bend that tab too.(I don't know much about cars,I'm learning)I wonder ,is the resistor you're talking about the same one I changed. The part #'s the same ,the GM dealer said the parts are made in china now so to order it ,the # was differant.I just checked and Relay#14 is exactly the same fuse only that says it's for the fuel pump.Is that the one I should have changed?

Its hard to say. You may have gotten a faulty resistor from the dealership. I wish I knew the ohm value off the top of my head but I dont.
What you can do is open up your fuse box, and swap the "fuel pump" relay with the "fuel pump speed" relay, and then see if that changes anything. Both relays should be the same part number. If the car acts any differently, you may have found the problem.
Just to clarify you have changed the fuel pump resistor already? And the car still wouldnt run with Tab 85 bent out? Have you inspected all the wiring?

I feel really stupid. When I ordered the resitor from the dealership ,she told me it would cost $57.,when I picked it up it only cost $20. I figured they gave me the right part.I called them this evening and they gave me the relay instead of the resistor.Anyway the resitor should be in tomorrow.I'll let you know how I make out. Thanks alot for all your help! And thanks for trying to help a dumb girl!

Sounds Good!
No problems!
Dont sell yourself short. Quite truthfully, most girls are even afraid to check their oil let alone make their own repairs. I'm impressed!
I'll bet the resistor solves your issue.
Please Report back with any further questions and let us know how it turns out.

Welcome Pontiac Girl.
We don't believe in that dumb girl crap here at AF. The fact that you were car savvy enough to come here, find the instructions to and then attempt the fuel pump resistor bypass shows you're no dummy. I would even bet that the dealership parts monkey either didn't listen to what you asked for or "assumed" you meant relay when you asked for the resistor. You'd be surprised and how many of them don't even know you car has a resistor. Tim is spot on in his suggestion, and the new fuel pump resistor should take care of your problem. Keep us informed of the outcome.

Hey Guys,
Well i got my resistor installed, put new relay in too.My car started and stayed running, but she stalled on me again on my way to work.I kept telling my husband that I thought I got a bad Mass air sensor,he said I was wrong.I called the parts place and told them i wanted a replacement, they told me that was'nt the problem.I took my old(new) one back and insisted that it was bad,the guy looked at it & said i was right, the seal was bad on it.Put that back on and haven't had a problem since.By the way my old resistor had a piece broke off. Also when i ordered the new resistor they had the right part # the 1st time, they changed the # 3differant times before giving me the relay,so yeah it was their fault.
Thanks again for all your help!!!!!
