I've done oil changes many times, but never transmission fluid changes. Is it tricky/hard in any way? Is there anything I should know before I do it? Do I just have to buy the filter and gasket and that's it?

Thanks! It helped a lot. But one more question. My Haynes manual gives me an option of 3t40 torque to 97-120 in-lbs. or 4t60E torque to 156 in-lbs. Which kind do I have? And I have a foot-lbs torque wrench, not an in-lbs... I found a conversion thing on the internet that gave me 8-10 ft-lbs and 13 ft-lbs respectively. Does this look right? Thanks!

Your Grand AM V6 3.1L is a 4T60E as seen on this page;
http://www.txchange.com/id.htm
So yours is 150 In Lbs= 13 Ft Lbs
Also this site has a good conversion thing, plus it has the actual formula if you want to check for your self.
