Alright guys, here's the problem.
My car is a 1990 Mitsubishi Eclipse, and the engine has gone bad. I'm thinking I have to buy another engine, but apparently the engine for this car is hard to find so it's gonna cost me about 2200 (engine and labor).
The engine was emitting black smoke, and i think it was leaking oil. Eventually it stopped running altogether. Is there another way to fix this problem besides buying another engine?

Wow, how do you expect us to help you when you give us that little but of info. I certainly wouldn't buy a new engine because I think I need a new one. First off what engine do you have? 1.8L or 2.0L? Turbo? What mods are done to the car? When did the car smoke? All the time, at start up, under boost? We need to know this kind of information. You say now it doesn't run. Well what does it do, will it turn over? Have you done a compression test?
A compression test will tell you a lot so I would recommend doing that.

Ok ok jeez, my fault. I'm pretty new to all this, but here's the information:
I know its a 1.8L engine. Non-Turbo
There were no mods done on the car (straight factory)
And It didn't smoke at start-up, it would smoke after being driven for a bit.
The engine turns over and makes noise when i turn the key, but it won't start.
Is that enough info?

Yea thats a little better. Have you checked fuel/spark? Does the motor have any strange noise coming from it when trying to start? Do a compression test.
