I have a 1994 Chevrolet K1500. Lately, the instrument panel has been acting up. The gear selector shows the gears (e.g. P,R,N,D,2,1) but doesn't show which gear you are in. The speedometer, tachometer, and everything else doesn't work either. You have to wiggle the keys and it finally starts working. Sometimes, when it doesn't work, the transmission acts up a little too. Any suggestions? Ignition switch? Tranny? Cluster? Let me know! Thanks!

Sounds like ignition switch if playing with the key "fixes" it. There is about 3/8" of adjustment in the switch to move where it screws onto the steering column. The switch in my truck started to slide a bit (over 20 years) and made it not always go far enough to crank if I turned the key slowly. Drop the column, remove the switch, position the switch - the part the rod goes into - in the off position (should be a detent in each position), and position it - without moving the switch. Put the switch back down on the column and tighten up the screws. Put the column back into place and tighten it up. Before you put the trim back on, test that it works properly. If it doesn't, check that the appropriate wires have power in the "on" position. You'll need a wiring diagram for this, if you have easy access to one, test this before you try adjusting the switch
