01 Jeep Grand Cherokee - 4.0L - Error Code P0432

2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 4.0L (straight 6), 150K miles

Today after my daughter drove the jeep we get a new Error Code:

P0432 - main catalyst below threshold bank 2

I'm not exactly sure what the problem may be other than I guess we've got a catalytic converter issue/problem. Is this code telling me the bank 2 catalytic converter needs to be replaced?

I've looked over other threads and have yet to find a simular situation.

What should be our next step?

Could be it's going out, has the gas mileage dropped? Look to see if the wire are all plugged in on the exhaust too.

Was under the vehical last weekend changing Bank 1, Sensor 2 everything looked fine.

Our next Step:

Based on some of the posts noted below
The mini-cats are not rattling
The O2 Sensors are less expensive to replace and could very well be the problem ($40 - $110 compared to $300 for the mini-cat assembly)

We will be changing out both Bank 2 O2 Sensors

We will let everyone know how everything turns out.

Well what i am thinking is when you get this code it means that your catalytic is really hot or it is probably craked and will need to be replaced. Or it can be the plugs. But i think you need to replace the catalytic

Boy a simple tune-up would/could make this a simple fix. I'm sure the 02 Sensors are original so changing them is probably a good idea anyway. I probably need to do the tune-up so will make it item two on the list. I will do them one at time to attempt to track any progress according to the work performed. This will allow us to report back to the forum.

In the end I agree with you I think we'll have to change the mini-cat assembly (but I'm hoping not to).

We replaced both pre and post O2 sensors Bank 2.

Both Sensors accessable from under the vehical. Pre-Cat Sensor electrical connection is under hood next to firewall right above sensor. Post-Cat Sensor electrical connection just above a rubber flap/shield under engine towards front, both removed using 7/8" open end wrench.

We've driven to town and back (approx. 14 miles round trip) no codes. We hope problem solved.
