1999 Isuzu Rodeo - Won't Start After Long Distance Driving

I have a 99 Isuzu Rodeo V6 - Auto Trans. - wondering if anyone has had a similar problem and hopefully a diagnosis. The car operates fine, however when driving long distances - say 150 - 200 miles if I stop and try to restart within 5 minutes it will not start. It will attempt a start but choke out - and sometimes not even that - it just has the low click of the starter. Temp. gauge registers normal - not sure if it's an overheating issue - but nothing indicates that. Car will eventually restart (or at least has to date) after a 15-20 minute rest period. Any experience / thoughts? I had some issues early last year - had the EGR valve replaced, thought that had solved it..

who many miles?

History on the battery and the alt?

Does the start turn over super slow?

I would first start with cleaning up the battery terminals and the batter ground connections.

could be your module or coilpack unless it's set up with hei distributer if so coild in top. you said it drug when tring to turn starter over that could be your problem bad starter takes away power to fuel pump. also you should have a fusable link going to starter but really sounds like coils or starter bad. maybe even cps sensor....good luck....

It has 99,000 + right now - will reach 100,000 by end of June at latest. I would say the issue started after 75,000. Battery has been replaced, but that was probably 1 1/2 years ago - approx. The start doesn't turn over slowly (or at least I don't think so) if it does start it gets the initial "charge" and then dies out. and, thus far it always turns back on after letting it rest.

I know this post is from 5 years ago - but did you ever solve the problem? I have a 2000 Honda Passport (made by Isuzu) and am having the same problem.

I had a similar issue and it was the fuel pressure regulator.

Thank you. I took it to the shop and they found a crack in the hose to the fuel press regulator- so I had that replaced first. If that doesn't fix the issue, I'll try the fuel press regulator next. I'll let you know if it solves the problem.

So, I replaced the fuel pressure regulator and it did not fix the problem. Any other suggestions would be appreciated… thanks

new to this site but have 40 years of dealing with auto problems and diagnostics, it looks like a year since your last post, you need to find out if it is loosing spark or fuel when it does not restart, even if it is up at normal temp. with a 10 mm wrench you can remove coil , check for spark? no spark now you have an idea of where to go from there, ign. mod. --crank sensor , either one will cause problem like this , one of the worst enemies of electronics is heat and over time they get weak and break connection inside of the unit/it cools down and makes the connection again until at when ever given time it looses it---- if you have spark-- check for fuel pressure ? some times with searching for intermittent problems you have to look for what is not the problem to find out what is. hope this was a help TRUCKINTOM OUT
