HELP build my motor

ALL MOTOR D15B

hey wassup...well my friend just gave me a d15b1 motor for free and i plan and building it up for fun but also use it for a daily driver...why because if i fuck it up i can just go to the junk yard and find another replacement for cheap...i was thinking of swapping out the head with either a D16A6 head or a D15B JDM NON-VTEC head (wanna keep it non-vtec) does anyone know which head flows better???...also theres hella oil on the block...anyone know what the cause might be...head gasket leak??..i dunno..this will be my first time building a motor so any help will be apreciated..well i kinda made a list of what parts i will be using...

D15B Block w/ 5spd Tranny
D16A6 or D15B JDM head
D16Y8 Intake Manifold w/ B18 60mm Throttle Body
D16Y8 Head Gasket
D16A1 or ZC pistons

with the Y8 head gasket and the D16A1/ZC pistons i will have about a 11.0 - 11.1 compression ratio...alot of people that i talk to online say that its okay for it to be daily driven..anyone have any opinions?? well thanks for the space:)

as far as compression.... sport compact car built a 11.5:1 turbocharged toyota matrix that was a daily driver that survived fine, but then again, they also have every grease monkey in america wanting to do the wrench turning for them, so they have infinite experience to source from. for an all motor 11:1 compression you should be fine... an aggressive cam and a higher stage clutch might make daily driving a chore, but shouldn't be that bad.

I wouldn't worry about all the oil. If you're gonna build it up, I'm sure you'll be takin' everything apart, and probably replace anything broken with it's aftermarket equivilent. Also, 11:1 compression is fine for daily driving, I've read about guys runnin' as high as 13:1 on their d-series.

well if i get a D16A6 head i probably going to send my stock cam to Delta Cams and get a regrind...i talked to someone with the cam from them and they said its pretty good and worth the price....$90 shipped..also does anyone know about the D15B JDM Head Non-VTEC??

is there any chance that you would know what might be the cause though??...the block does have 207xxx miles

its most likely a head gasket blown, if there is oil everywhere, you could have a crack in the block also, try and spin the crankshaft as fast as possible and see if you notice where the engine oil is leaking from.

well im getting a new D16Y8 Head Gasket soon....my friend has the motor still in his car and its still running so im guess there wouldnt be a crack in the block...so hopefully its just a blown head gasket...also what do you guys think i should do to the block...i want to rebuild it but im trying not to spend alot of cash..

Thanks

you have to use whatever distributor corresponds to your fuel injection and ECU. If you are using OBD0 ECU (PM6, PG7) then you have to use an MPFI distributor off of an 88-91 CRX/Civic Si (d16a6), 88-91 CRX HF, or another equilivant MPFI equipped car.

im hoping this setup will give me about 140-150 @the wheels:) ...thats

-11.1:1 CR
-Y8 IM w/ 60mm TB
-Delta 260 Camgrind specs:
intake- dur-260 lift-400
exhaust- dur-260 lift-400
-i/h/e

hopefully everything will be finished by summer...aiming for 14.4-14.9 in a full interior 88-91 dx hatch...anyone think this is a good prediction or what??...

change of plans....im getting OEM D16A1 pistons OS .50 .....so this weekend im gonna bore out the block to a 75.5 .... no more 1493.42cc its gonna be a 1514.4cc oOOO yea...and instead of buying the Y8 head gasket im just gonna buy the whole gasket kit for the d15 and mill the head .011 which is the difference between the Y8 and B7 headgasket...hopefully the rods will fit on the d16A1 os .5 pistons?
