I've researched this until my head is spinning but I'll try to make this short. I have a 2000 Passat wagon with 1.8T and a 5 spd. Because of failed emissions and a P1128 code I'm trying to replace the MAF sensor but I'm a little lost. Parts places list 2 different possibilities with VIN AUG or ATW but those letters show up nowhere in my VIN # WVWNA23B5YE256743.
I've looked a pictures of MAF sensors for both AUG and ATW online and they look nothing like anything on my car. Starting from the air inlet through the airbox, to the turbo, around the front of the car to a cooler and then to the intake I see nothing resembling any of the pictures or the MAF I got from O'Rielly's.
I'm starting to lose my mind over this. Can someone please help me?

It's a VW dealer part. Just give them the Passat vin# and they'll give you the part.

Thanks,
Any particular reason why for my car it is a dealer only item? I've read plenty of posts on here and other forums where people have purchased reman MAFs for these same cars online and over the counter. I have a feeling a dealer part is going to cost me an arm and a leg and it may not even solve the problem.

Thanks,
The pic they show is the exact same thing I got from O'Rielly but I can't find anything that looks like that on the car. Even the parts guy came out and we went all over the thing and he said "I don't know what to tell ya." Then he went inside and refunded my money.
Can you tell me where I'm supposed to find it?

Your engine code is a ATW. I work for Vw I just checked it.

That is incorrect. Which is why it's a dealer only part. On certain things you just don't want to do aftermarket. The dealer part number for a ATW is 06A-906-461-DX which is rebuilt. You don't want brand new. The number for the AUG is 06A-906-461-LX... they are two totally different parts. It's going to run you about 230 to get the right part. Go to your local dealer. Anything electrical should be purchased through the dealer. Otherwise you get the wrong shit as listed above.
