um 1998 cavalier 2200 can i supercharger it if properly done?

um i want to supercharger my cavalier to race all the fags in my school with there civics and queer as spoilers.

i was wondering if this be worth it or should i go with something else or maybe there is something cheaper.

the link is not working, but since its a supercharger kit i can almost guess the kit itself is worth more then the entire car (i recently totalled a 98 cavalier). in my opinion it would not be worth it at all. just keep it the way it is and enjoy the insanely awesome gas mileage, or if you want to go faster, just do what i did and buy a faster car. i understand thats easier said then done, but if you can afford a brand new supercharger kit........

The 2200 is not worth adding boost to. It's one hell of a reliable engine and gets excellent MPGs, but it's not meant for racing. If you want to supercharge a Cavalier, I'd recommend trading up to one with an Ecotec in it. So far nobody in the "short lane" has been faster :evillol:

There is no explosion, it is a controlled burn. Explosions cause BIG and EXPENSIVE problems. I wouldn't buy something from someone that doesn't know that!

They also claim a 70 HP increase with 8 PSI boost. I got roughly 80 HP (largely estimated) with 14+ PSI boost on an engine that has much better volumetric efficiency to begin with. Something's off there... from the research I did in buying my supercharger, that sounds more like a turbocharger increase, and they have oil hoses listed in the kit, a turbo part; but they have belt/pulley listed too, so like I already said, something's off. Every supercharger I have seen has it's own oil, so I don't know why they'd have oil hoses listed at all.

Do your own research on this, but from what I remember, the vortech supercharger is a centrifugal type which develops little boost at low RPMs and has lag just like a turbo does. Not what you want on a low revving engine. The advantage is that the air can be cooled with a turbo charger intercooler, resulting in even more air because there is no heat soak from the head.

8 psi of boost on a 2200 is not very safe if i remember correctly. i mean, im sure it will be fine if you take good care of it and baby it, but people get superchargers to NOT do that kind of thing. 5-6 psi is more in the 2200's safety zone

I can't comment on the maximum boost, but I thought the 2200 was a sturdier design than my 2.2 Ecotec which handles 14 PSI just fine. And no, people with superchargers don't baby the car ;) I think the price is pretty high also, I paid just under $3K for mine and that was a GM part that came with a warranty. I saw no warranty at all on this one. But that's just simple economics, when something is hard to find because nobody buys them the one or two companies can charge whatever they want because there is no competition.

um one question where did you find that one and im not going to lie im 17years old and i just want to go fast and if supercharger or turbo supposivively isnt the way to go for the 2200 should i just stick to the basics and upgrade the simplier things and if im really serious then consider a supercharger or turbo

Well that's the bad news for you. My 2.2 is the Ecotec which doesn't share a single part with the 2200 that's in yours. It is also a discontinued part, and I got one of the very last ones available anywhere. I was only stating that I'm sure you could find a cheaper one if you look, but I'd be surprised if there's more than a few manufacturers that make any kind of forced induction for a 2200. Probably more a matter of finding the cheapest distributor of them. I would strongly recommend that you do not boost that engine. To get the same power as you could from the Ecotec (I should have 250 HP with a total investment of $9k in a 2004, only a few hundred $ and a few dozen HP more to go), you could have bought a car with an Ecotec in it and installed a turbocharger for about the same as what you'd have to spend to let that 2200 handle the power.

Let me give you some advice that, quite honestly, I would have completely ignored at 17. Don't go fast, practice (in safe places) your driving skills first. I had some VERY close calls, and if not for the Grace of God, I would without a doubt be dead. Learn how to get out of bad situations while you're still in a car that you can easily replace if you total it. Just remember you aren't replaceable. Look at what's in the ditch just in case you go in there. A barbed wire fence with steel posts can poke a hole in your roof a couple inches from your head and tear you up pretty good as you crawl out the window because you're upside down in soft dirt that doesn't let the doors open. Like I said, I should be dead, and sadly I have more stories that fortunately end a little bit better but could have been worse. After the few friends that will still get into a car you're driving tell you you should have been a stunt driver, go for the boost. And then never use it on a public road ;) Just remember you're not half as good as you think you are.

Maybe you should go with NOx. It would probably be the most efficient HP for your car, and you could remove it and sell it when you sell the car. A super- or turbocharger is mostly permanent, not that it can't be removed but it's a lot more work and you'd have to get a PCM to put back in the car bacause the updated one for the boost can't be "turned back". Any updates are permanent. It would also give you a reason not to use it all the time, because the low purchase price is eventually offset by the cost of refilling the bottles. Read up on JBO.org about that, but from the little research I did on it, that may be the answer for you in this situation.

RSM doesn't even exist anymore....

Just buy a Lumina LTZ or Pontiac Bonneville or Grand Prix GTP, just as cheap as the superhcarger itself and the last 2 come with the supercharger, so.........
