GTx Roadster?

I keep having this vision of removing the top off my GTRA and turning it into a roadster. I suppose this goes back to when I was driving a SRF. I loved having my head out in the wind. It's certainly much more comfortable. At least in the Southeast climate. My vision has no windshield. Maybe just a small "comp" style windshield like the Shelby Cobra's had.
What negatives or positives to you see in doing this? The car can't get much uglier.

I like that idea! I think it might actually look better as a convertible. You'd need to keep the cage in it, obviously, but I don't see a structural need for any of the other cladding.
It would mess up the aerodynamics somewhat, but unless you're making money off racing it, who cares?
If you were sure to make it fully reversible, I think it's a fantastic plan!

Hmmm... seems like it'd be very easy to pull the windshield and roof panel and give it a try :D

This seems like a pretty drastic solution for a cloudy rear window. :jerking:

Would be interesting to see Jim. I had the roof of my car recently as part of our prep but unfortunately did not take any photos.
There are plenty of open top cars that I have raced against that are certainly fast enough (Lotus 7's etc) so dont expect that it would slow the car down by to much. You would lose around 30 - 40kg off the weight by my guess.
Tying the trunk and rear cockpit panelling back in would probably be the biggest challenge but certainly no show stopper.
Go on, do it!
(I say this contemplating how cold and wet we will get in the hardtop version this weekend if it rains during our 6 hour race!!)
