power window issue

Hey all,
i searched past threads for power window problems, but couldn't find any that apply to my issue specifically, so i'm looking for advice...

My driver's side window will only go down about an inch, very slowly, and will struggle to go back up at all (i have to play with the controls to get it back in the closed position).
Since parts are so bloody expensive and my car is pretty old (1998 GT), i had two questions:
1. does my problem sound like i need to replace both the motor and the regulator or just one of the two?
2. this may sound stupid, but are the motors interchangeable (for example, could i swap the rear left window motor with the front one?)

Thanks all in advance and enjoy your summers

when i did mine the motor and regulator came together as one part. also, in the GM manual for my 01, it shows them together as one part. you can pick them up on ebay for around $50-60 if i remember correctly. as far as the motor compatibility, from looking at the pics in my gm manual, i see a little bit of a difference between the front motors and the rear motors, but who knows, it may just be the angles. i guess if you want a for sure answer youll just have to give it a shot and try it

thanks for the advice.
the auto parts store i called only sells the motor without the regulator, and they want 90 bucks for it. The junk yard i called wants 100 bucks for the kit, but i might be able to talk them down a bit. Buying from ebay will cost me about the same once delivery to canada is added.
Man i hate spending money on something so stupid but i got to.
