Here it goes....i have a 96 grand am 3.1 with 228k. It is running rough and is undrivable

I have replaced ECU, both ckp sensors, has a new camshaft sensor, have 4 different coil packs/ICM for it that are all known to be good but the car will only start with one of them

i hooked a cheap scanner up to it and it says that my ign adv(deg) is running anywhere from -20 to -35 degrees depending on rpm.

which is very very retarded(lol...)

Also the tachometer is erratic and doesn't match the actual engine rpm..

i have checked and redone several wire looms, the scanner says the engine is missing on 5 out of the 6 cylinders(only cylinder 2 is normal) this car has been sitting for a month and im getting very very sick of it

Also i have taken it to 6 shops trying to get a ckp relearn on it because that's what i was told i needed, and they say that my car actually has to give them a code that says my car needs it.

plz help me...

print this for them and tell them that they were wrong :grinno:

you replaced both ckp sensors and pcm your car is crying to be relearned.

also check that ignition wires are connected correctly

remember engine side closer to the front bumper is 2 4 6 opposite cylinders are 1 3 5 ignition coils from left to right are 2/5 3/6 1/4

it is missing because the timing is way off

well, i finally found a shop that will do the ckp relearn and he said that my specific model does not need the relearn he even tried just to make sure...so now i am back to the drawing board...it is now consistently bringing up the P1361 code as well as the same P0300 for the multiple misfire...it is also missing the worst on cyl 2. i have had the other ICM's tested and there are all fine plus i borrowed the one off the wifes monte and it wont start my car either...there is only one ICM the car will start off of...i have talked with several shops and no-one knows what i should do...thanks ahead of time... again...~Shawn

- inspect all your wires going to the ICM (it is possible that they are leaning against hot engine surface and insulation is melted and is shorting something somewhere. Also inspect each of the ICM connectors (female and male side) make sure they are straight and making good connection.

The only code i am getting now is a PO131 code i have replaced the O2 sensor about 25k ago, and today i checked all the wires to the ecu for continuity. if i hook my scanner up the the car and monitor live data its says the front O2 is way to lean and the back up is way rich (the car is running rich) any suggestions??? Thank You ~Shawn
