hm rough cituations

been a while since i been on here

made the mistake of buying a fairly clean 83 c20 for ambitions of making a hot rod truck .... btw it does not run
has a 265 short block under the hood now >< and the deal was he woudl give me a tpi 305 (wiring harness and all) with the truck cause he has to move to florida ect i said ok cool i could swap it all over and have a slick project

well he strips the 305 to make it a long block and as far as the fuel injection and wiring harness ... he "lost them " after i got the truck towed back to my place . so i bit the bullet had some words took the 305 and left .. looking around my buddy wanted to sell me his running "hercules crate 350" i know its a running engine but hercules im lost at that point but he wanted 100 bucks for it so i took him up on it now im wanting to reseal it up before i drop it in and am looking for advice
i ran to summit bought a complete gasket kit for it , now onto the questions

whats the best method of cleaning up rusted cylender heads ? the previous owner was preaching about "moronic acid "? i think he meant to say muratic? but my thoughts are wont that pit the head or cause damage to them . i could take it up to my old vocational school have them steam tank the heads but im unsure if that will get all the carbon off the valves and such .

if these seem like amatuerish questions i appologise this is the first engine im resealing up on my own .

i woudl go all out rebuilding it but money is a bit tight at the moment and im wanting to get the truck moving under her own power

If you have access to your old vocational school, use it! Not only would you benefit, but the new upcoming Tech's would get some experience as well. Have them pull the valves, clean them up, lap them in and install new valve stem seals.

Win - Win for both parties.
