Power Steering pump oil overflow

I have traced an oil leak down to my power steering pump. Mine isn't exactly like some of the GTS's I have seen, in that it angles to the side a bit. (See pic) The GTS's I have seen have a riser made out of radiator hose. Did you GTS owners cut the plastic below the bayonet mount used for the cap and then attach the cut off portion to the top of the hose extension? Or did your cars come that way? I have always had a slight overflow blowout leak but it seems that since my accident it blows more out of the top. I'm not sure why, as the steering feels fine, until of course the oil level gets low. My cap doesn't have a gasket, maybe that's the quick fix. Anyone else have a cap gasket?

I made an extension for mine. Just sawed the top off and put a piece of hose in the middle. Don't fill the fluid much over the grate in the bottom either.

GTS comes with the rubber extension. Dont fill the level much past the plastic grating inside.

Go to the parts store and find a radiator hose ( I think it is 2in id) and cut it to fit. That will fix your problem. To answer your question no there is not a gasket for the cap. The fluid is coming out of the vent hole in the cap.

Uwe,
That front end looks a lot different than in the last photo you posted! Great job getting it back together.
I switched to Royal Purple synthetic fluid and keep it on the tip of the dip stick, cold and haven't had any surging out the top. I think whatever was in there when I got the car was old, dirty and frothed up big time. I'm sure any of the synthetics would be equivalent. The Royal Purple was available and less expensive in my area. It seems to take quit a bit of flushing to get the crude out. I think it collects in the rack and in the radiator cooler. I think I used five or six small bottles, about $5 a pop.
The extention looks like a great idea and would allow the level to be kept higher for pump safety. Since the reservoir can be swapped (I believe, haven't done that yet), cutting it off wouldn't be a problem having a core when it comes time to replace the pump.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I was keeping my fluid just above the grate but it still seems to blow out, so the extension is def. the way to go. Hopefully there isn't something else going on as I did put in fresh fluid after the crash and the dumping of fluid seems to be more severe now. I'll replace the O ring in the cap as well. One step at a time.
Mike, I cheated, this was a before crash photo that I pulled up. The car is back together, running well-except for this little hiccup.

Uwe,
We need updated photos of the resurrected machine for historical and admiration purposes!
After I changed my steering rack and purged all the old fluid, it took a while for the system to purge all the air and stabilize the level, even going through the purging routine initially. Perhaps that may be why it is a little worse now. I've got the extension on my list to do as well.
