Hello everyone,

I'd like to share my latest car, Aoshima Harrier 350G Custom version which I managed to finish it in a month. The car was painted with TS-40 (Metallic black) and TS-13 (Clear).

Well, nothing fancy about the car, just straight out of the box build since I've got no more time to spend in modeling in my final year in uni. It's such a decent model with the absence of major fitment issues that I enjoyed building it.

So, here you go.. Enjoy the pictures..

Looks nice, but take more time with polishing, most with sanding. And You make paint lights clear parts around with black paint

Super clean! Excellent work!! Is that the kit's box stock interior, or did you use the resin transkit?

For polishing, I'm still struggling on it. I haven't got my best way to get it right. I was always wondering if I have to polish the base paint before applying the clear coat to get the shine. For this car, I didn't. Do you guys think that I need to polish the body more? I'm just afraid if it's going to scratch the hell out of the body though.

The interior is :headshake resin. It comes together from the box.

Cheers.

Sorry, I meant was it this transkit form KA models. But it isn't. I haven't seen any done up yet. The unbuilt parts look promising.

To stradlegroove - You dont need a polishing bsecoat before clear. The most important is PERFECT prepare body in sanding process - all body must be a perfect smooth ( looks on Yours body - specially back both, on bonnet a little bit as well ) and next use polishing compounds ( start with first - course - and polishing each so long, before You dont see that with this compounds dont make nothing better ) - I hope You understand what I mean :( If You want I can show You my black body of honda oddysey

That resin kit looks awesome! It would give so much detail for the car. How much does this detailing set sell for? I guess it would cost as much as buying the car kit alone or maybe even more :banghead:

Hey, Koksik,

I searched some of your works. Your paint job is superb. Do you mind to be my tutor? :grinno:

What I did is:

sand the car's body with 800 and 2000 grid sand paper
prime coat
sand the primer with 2000 grid until smooth
base coat
sand the base coat with -again- 2000 grid (until the body smooth too, a bit mirror look, but blurry still)
then, clear coat, a bit heavier. The problem is as soon as me applying the clear coat, orange peel is all over the body! It looks terrible. Do you know the root of the problem here? But after waxing the car (With automotive wax), I can get the shine as you can see on the pics.

Can tamiya polishing kit overcome this problems?

Thanks

I know that way I finish Your list:
REMEMBER: Dont sanding a base color if its a metallic or pearl color!!! I never sanding base color.
Next after clear is sanding with 2000 paper and next step is polishing.
Try put 2 or 3 coat of clear - thats better than one heavy! Soon I show You body ( black&silver ) without wax - only polishing

I kno. Hirboboy has it for sale. IDK what country Hughesdale is in, but here is the link:
http://www.hiroboy.com/catalog/product_info.php?currency=USD&products_id=2431 It's $16 US$ so not that bad. I'd get it if I did that kit.

Thanks Rick!

Yea, I know.. I feel like I'm getting better for each kit I've made. Also, this forum helps me a lot in time of need :grinno: So just stick around here, Rick!

For the wheel, I simply covered the side wheels around with tamiya tape and airbrush them with tamiya semi gloss black. Also, touch them up with black marker here and there.

Why dun you post some of your works here.. Let others see what you've got so far :loser:

Cheers.

What is the logic of not sanding the metallic base color? Thanks for the tips!

Chris,

If you sand the base metallic color, the flakes/metallic particles will get smeared. The key to smooth paint job is super smooth primer. Make sure you sand your primer with 2000 grid from Tamiya before applying the base color.

Your Harrier looks great, just try polishing it with Tamiya Coarse, Fine, Finish and Wax. The paint job looks smooth enough, I don't think you'd need to sand it. Good luck!

Are you and plasticmodellista Indonesians by any chance?

Hey.. thanks for the tips!

I'll get my hands on Tamiya polishing kit to replace the old automotive wax. Btw, do you reckon to get those coarse, fine, & finish polishing kit? Based my own research, I believe the 'fine' one would be adequate to get the shine, wouldn't it?

Yes, we are. Are you too?
