hey, chubsky

don't hi-jack this thread...

post over to the kia thread; you didn't state which engine u got 4 cyl/ 6 cyl... there's 4 types on that year

but, anyways, here's a more direct link to autozone's free online repair manual

gotta register there 1st...

http://www.autozone.com/autozone/repairinfo/repairguide/repairGuideContent.jsp?partName=Engine+Mechanical&pageId=0900c15280028451&partId=0900c15280028451

and if your regular 1/2" drive ratchet/ breaker bar is not good enough to get the tension off, they also have a "free rent a tool" specialized thin bar w/ adaptors for this:

I am working on an optima and had to put the alternator back in it. now I have to run the belt but it is beyond my skill without a diagram, I already looked at autozone and that diagram is not quite the same.

Welcome to AF chubsky!

Your post has been moved to its proper Kia destination.

I am working on an optima and had to put the alternator back in it. now I have to run the belt but it is beyond my skill without a diagram, I already looked at autozone and that diagram is not quite the same.

Thier should be an underhood diagram either on the front of theupper radiator support or on the fenderwell.

And ricebike, might not want to post the autozone link so freely. :2cents:

i know about not posting copyrighted pix on here...

from the online manual, you have 2 accessory belts for that 4 cyl 2.4L engine... so that tool i mentioned above is for the single belt system w/ a spring loaded tensioner (the 6 cylinder engine)

your engine has the locking bolt and adjustment bolt combo...on the alternator bracket

the 2 belts listed on the site should give you an idea where to place them, eh?

the inner belt, waterpump and alternator belt... the adjustment bolt is on the alt bracket, right?

the outer belt is the AC and power steering pump belt

PS: you're changing out the alternator? isn't this under warranty?

pps: go directly to the kia site to hopefully d/l what you need... wow, i never knew they're soo cheap to put a belt routing diagram for these vehicles...
