2004 grand prix gt 70,000km
took it to get e-tested , passed and the dude at the oil changers said that my thottle body was looking kinda dirty and he wanted to clean it for me and do somekind of intake system clean as well for $70, i told him i could do it...
Just wondering what kinda cleaner to use and any tips/hints from people that know what they are talking about and whats up with that intake cleaning thing?
its like an IV that drips into it

Unless this cleaner hooks into the air intake hose, I don't see how it works. The throttle body is air only, so anything that's added through the fuel system will not hit the t/b. I would also be wary of anything that is added through the air intake hose, as it could muck up your MAF sensor.
The best DIY way to clean a throttle body is to use a throttle body cleaner spray (not carb cleaner, but something specifically made for multiport injection).

yeah i thought so too...so the cleaner spray, what is best to use or are they all the same type thing? Can i use , say a tooth brush to get any guck off the walls of the TB or just spray like half a can in the TB and start it up and let it run awhile and good enough?

I'm not sure of your exact setup, but when I cleaned my Throttle body on a 92 olds 3.8. It was much easier to remove it completely, then remove the sensors and IAC valve to really get all the passages, plate and bore cleaned out good. After cleaning it many of the stalling and code systoms went away. I was also able to clean out the plenum pretty good.

just use any brand you want; it has to be that and not carburetor cleaner (that's too abrasive)

follow it w/ a lint-free shop rag (i'm posting too many pix as is)

sure, it may be hard starting just for a sec, depending on how much cleaner you blasted into the intake tract... but it's basically that easy
follow w/ a techron/chevron fuel treatment in the fuel tank & bam! a $70 service saved for other things! like getting a new fuel filter installed or something else...

Dont worry about buying a new toothbrush. Just use the wife's/girlfriends and when your all done and the toothbrush is all brown, just spray it with brake clean untill its nice and clean and she'll never know.
