We took a drive out to the Austin Dam today which is located in Austin, PA.
To find out what happened to it check out the link to Wikipedia.com.

I'm not in any of the pictures cause I took them all. We went up w/ some friends. There's way too many pictures to post up in here so here's the link to my photo bucket page w/ all the pics.

That's pretty cool. I always like old stuff like that where you have to use your imagination to fill in what it all was back in the days. Pretty sweet.

And I'm going to ask about about the "Junk in da Trunk" photo in your pics ;)

That junk in the trunk thing was from a really old thread that we had here like last year or so. I think it was the word association thread.

We had a good time, as you can see we took lots of pictures. Something interesting, on Wikipedia they say that 78 people died but at the memorial they have a display of plaques that have the names of the people that died. Now we counted 140 plaques but not all plaques had just one name on them, some had "Mr. and Mrs. Smith, 2 sons and baby" so that would 5 people for just one plaque. We didn't count how many names were listed but it seems to me that a lot more then 78 people died. Another interesting thing is that it did 10 million dollars in damage...in 1911, could you imagine what that would cost today.

My wife has been looking all over the internet looking for before and after pics of Austin since when the dame broke, the water rushed straight through the streets of Austin (only about half a mile from the dame) and the water did damage for 8 miles.

In this link, the top picture is Austin before the bust and the 2nd picture is after when they started to rebuild.

Here's a lot of text on what happened in detail. I still haven't read it but I will here soon.

...After

I don't know if this thread is drawing in any interest but to me this is very interesting since it is so close and no one around here seems to know anything about it.

Old pics are awesome. It's amazing how much stuff changes from then to now. Obviously not too much in these pics, but you can really get a feel of everything with the "before" pic. I like reading books about Chicago with lots of pics, like the before and after like this because it shows so much change and history.

I love doing research on this dame because it's not very often that you get to see something so crazy.

My wife is talking about taking a trip to Gettysburg!! Never been there but that would be amazing to see too.
