breather cap

i have a 04 GP gt 70,000 k and wanted to get an oil cap with a filter breather for the cap, it is chrome and looks awesome but was wondering if it would hurt anything to have this in?

Tell you the truth man, I'm not sure there are really advantages or dis advantages of having one. I still have to stock oil cap and I've been happy.

ZZP has them too. A lot of Grand Prix owners run with them. I just dont see any performace gains, so I dont have one. (maybe I'm wrong, stranger things have happened)

All breather duties are handled through the PCV system via the intake manifold. Unless it somehow allows dirt into the engine, I don't see where it could hurt, but it also won't help anything unless you are running uber RPM and having issues with pressure building up in the oiling system.

So, thats what they are for... Keep from blowing seals and things at higher RPM's. I was always wondering about those things. Wouldn't it just be better to replace the PCV Valve as routine maintanance?

I don't really see a use or need for a breather cap on a 3800, but if you want to use one because it's all chrome and fancy, I don't see a problem with it either. I know people that use electric A.I.R. pumps as crankcase evac systems, especially on race cars. We sell a ton of them for that specific use. Since Michigan isn't a green state, it's about the only reason we sell most of them.
