what is a speed resister or a fuel resister?

The fuel pump resistor is only applicable to '97 - '00 Grand Prixs with the supercharged L67 SII 3800 engine. It gives the fuel pump a two speed capability. It ties into the fuel pump speed control relay. Unless you are having issues like hard starting or engine firing up and stalling after a few seconds or low fuel pressure I wouldn't worry about it.

a downpipe, which will include the ubend delete, will give your car more performance. it replaces your current downpipe, which has the performance unfriendly u-bend in it. most places will give you the option of getting one with or without a catylic converter. my exhaust shop "built" my downpipe, installed it, and also cut out the resonator all for $75

if you're looking to go faster, the downpipe is where its at. if you're looking to be louder, the cat back/mufflers is where its at. the stock catback is not that restrictive

I agree the stock quasi dual exhaust system is pretty good but limited by pipe diameter since it is 2.25". I prefer 2.5" diameter.

Also, to clarify the stock exhaust system is not a CATBack exhaust system. It does not delete the resonator which most if not all real CATBack exhuast systems do. That explains why these type exhaust systems are very noisy and you may get deceleration pop plus a headache on long trips.

For a L67 GTP the best exhaust mod is headers.

while we are on the subject of exhausts...quick question.

i have an appointment at the exhaust shop on Tuesday to have my new dual exhaust tips put on that i ordered from PFYC :)

anyways...i have a leak in my resenator and i was wondering how a GT would sound if i just had them cut it out and just replace it with a regular pipe? anyone have this done??

I have my resonator deleted but with custom 2.5" plumbing on my GTP to the input of the mufflers. If it was a daily driver I would think twice about it. In my case no big deal since it is not a daily driver.

so what your saying is i should prolly think twice about having the resonator deleted? this will be on my GT so it still has the 2.25" exhaust with Ubend still in there and everything.

For cruising the exhaust sounds nicer at least in my opinion with the resonator left intact. If you take long drives or trips just keep a bottle of aspirin or Tylenol in the car if you decide to delete it.

ok, i guess maybe i will not get it done. how much does a new resonator usually run? is there really any "benefits" of deleting your resonator??

Nope. Just more noise.

Now good CATback exhaust systems with at least 2.5" plumbing out to the tips and 2.5" inlet/outlet mufflers may give you up to a 10 hp increase but typically just more noise.

Someone several years ago claimed that their Grand Prix sounded just as good as a car with a V8 like the Mustang GTs but I think you would have to use your imagination on that comment.

i dont have a resonator, the exhaust sounds just like it did before just a little louder. same sound, just louder. not too loud either. definetely nothing i would worry about getting pulled over for. i like it.

yeah, i was looking on a few websites and found some decent priced magnaflow exhaust systems. i was thinking about getting them and a downpipe. gonna be selling the SE pretty soon here so its time to mod the GT.

well...depending on how much HP he is putting to the ground. a stock GP i doubt would sound as good as a mustang...however a decently modded GTP can and will sound just as good as a mustang. went to a GP meet a couple years ago here in WI. that turbo'd GP was there parked next to a '07 Goat with the LS2 and no joke the exhaust on the GP sounded just as nice as the Goat. when the guy opened the electronic cutoff...it was just insane loud :crying:

just got my car back from the exhaust shop a couple hours ago...just wanted to add the comment that i love the sound too! got the resonator deleted after trying to decide if i wanted to or not...now i'm very glad i did! not to mention the exhaust tips look awesome!
