ceramic resistor

ok i was was working on a 93 ford taurus sho today and the cooling fan resistor looks just like my fuel pump speed resistor on my 2000 gp gtp does anyone know if this may be the same part or if it will work on the gtp seen this today and just thought i might ask someone that might know something

Good thought, but I'll bet resistance is different and probably even the type of connector.

Not to mention, would you trust a Ford part on your GTP?

no im not much of a ford fan i have a 87 turbo coupe it was a really nice car but 3 days after i bought it it spun a main bearing and i hade taurus sho with v8 it only lasted 2 mounths and one of the cams broke bent vaulvs ford wanted 17ooo for new motor but anysways the connector is differant and do you know the resestance on the gtp resistor

the Tortus SHO came with a V8?? i never knew that...

i remember way back in i believe it was '97 or '98 Car and Driver had a column that was comparing the Grand Prix GTX and Taurus SHO

yeah it was a 1999 sho 3.4 dohc v8 it sounded really good but that was about it

are you sure the one you worked on had a 3.4?

as a side note...Ford is coming back with the SHO in 2010? get this...AWD 3.5 Litre Twin Turbo 365HP @ 5500 RPM and 350 ib-ft of torque? hmm...

The 3.4L was a V8 made by Yamaha.

Believe it or not Ford must be doing something right. Of the U.S. top 3 car manufacturers it doesn't have the financial problems like GM and Chrysler. Although sales are down it did better than the others and even beat Toyota regaining the number 2 spot over Toyota.

I bought a used 2008 Ford F150 pick up truck with only 2500 miles and so far so good. Plus it has the Triton 5.4L V8 engine and 4 wheel drive.

I had one of them in the shop because of a missfire. It wasn't a 2008, but it had the 5.4 triton V8. Coil per plug system. Oh man, the two plugs farthest back towards the firewall. :banghead:

Problem turned out being the owner had changed 6 of the 8 plugs (leaving the hardest two). On top of that they used champion standard cheapo replacements. So they drove it with 6 new champions and two old motorcraft.:screwy:

Plug and Plug boot replacement solved the missfire problem.

Nope. It only has a little over 2500 miles Tim. I guess I'll worry about it 50K miles from now. :lol:

Around 1 ohm or less if I recall properly but don't quote me on it. I'd have to pull mine and ohm it out. What resistance are you getting?

Basically when the PCM activates the fuel pump speed control relay putting the resistor in the circuit you get a voltage drop proportional to dropping fuel pressure to around 47-41 psi. With no speed control you will get 48-55 psi which is needed for starting, higher boost conditions or WOT. Obviously a full 12 volts at the fuel pump will give the highest fuel pressure reading.

im getting .4-.6 on the bad one i have for the sho and the gtp the one in the pic is off an sho cooling fan resistor ive taken both apart and i think it is the same thing and there only like $8 on ebay
