Question about Fujimi Porsche 917K versions

Hi everyone,
I have a question regarding the various Fujimi 917K plastic kits.
As far as I knew none of these kits come with engine bay detail, but today while I was taking a look on the HLJ homepage I ran into the following information:
Extremely nice full-detail kit of the Porsche 917K '71 Daytona Winner...
http://www.hlj.com/product/FUJ12236
Beautiful model of the Porsche 917K, winner of the 1971 Monza 1000km race. Nice engine detail, superb moldings all over...
http://www.hlj.com/product/FUJ12199
Beautiful full-detail (including engine detail) model of the Porsche 917K as it raced in the 1970 Le Mans
http://www.hlj.com/product/FUJ12175
Is it true that these are full detail kits with engine detail or is HLJ exaggerating, while the other versions are described by them to be curbside models?!

Jano,
You can see the instructions of the, for example, Monza kit here (http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/image/10037708n/40/1). It does have some engine parts but I would not call it full detail.

Hi Ales,
That's where I first looked last year, when I first considered one of these kits, and it was obvious that there was no full engine detail. I'm a bit perplexed by the HLJ claims as I was pretty sure none of the Fujimi 917 kits had full detail.
Thanks for your help.

If you want a full detail engine and are willing to cut the back off I would say the best bet is the Profil 24 kit. The Fujimi kit + engine transkit+ photoetch will cost around $100.00. The Profil 24 around $130.00. The big problem with the Fujimi kit is the front. Its way to wide(almost as wide as the rear). Think about it, huge wide rear tires and skinny front tires do not equal the same width like on the Fujimi kit. Maybe the track measurements without tires messed them up. Thats why they should have measured a real car!!

I have 3 versions of Fujimi 917K: 1970 Le Mans winner, 71 Le Mans winner and Monza winner. NONE of them has FULL engine detail.
They do have nice partial engine detail and frame structure.

You are right, the detail on the Profil24 kit is excellent. It's just that I'm not into buying expensive kits of anything but Ferrari! ;)
I've also got the Heller kit of the 1970 Le Mans winner 917K with engine detail, but there are a couple of things that just don't look right and I thought I'm going to compare it with the Fujimi kit and see which one I'll build.

I suppose they are all the same kit with different decals?!

71 Le Mans and Monza versions are identical and differ only in decal. 70 Le Mans version has a slightly different body because the tail design is a little different. I will post some pictures for you later.

Here are some pictures of the Fujimi kits. If you need pictures of specific parts, let me know and I can snap them for you.

The instruction should give you some ideas of how detail the engine bay is.

I also recommend the PE set from Studio 27. I got it for ~$11 from Stradasport

If you are a 917 fan, I also recommend 917 kits from Fisher. I got these directly from Fisher's website. Paul Fisher is just an awesome guy to buy from.

The molding is just superb for a $95 resin kit. Great PE set and decal too. Two vaccum-formed windowshield screens are included.

The molding of Pink Pig does show some aging but still not bad at all.

This is what you will get with the Fujimi kit.
Topside is an engine cover and fan.

Thank you "Helico" and "rollover"!
Your pictures of the kits and engine bay helped me a lot. I think I'll get one of the Fujimi kits and try to improve the engine bay.
Thanks again for your help! :)

Thanks for the info and the picture. This engine upgrade kit might be the best way to go together with a Fujimi kit.

While not as sharp as the newer fujimi kit, the older Heller re-issues of the 917 have a very nicely proportioned body.

Yes they do, but than the detail is very poor overall (I've got one in my stash).
The engine is half arsed. The tires are very bad. The clear parts are, let's say poor.
And the list can go on and on.
Maybe I could combine a Fujimi and a Heller and get something acceptable (not sure about the engine.

Dude, I'd like to see you actually build something instead of buying kits! :D ;) How's the Alpine coming along?

I've always wondered how good the Union Memorial Collection 917 kits are, can anyone say? Are they just reissue of something earlier? Thanks if anyone can say

Union, Heller, Testors, they are all the same except I believe Heller had a '70 tail and a '71 tail. The others just had the '71 tail. They all have their flaws. Fujimi needs new wheels and a wider rear deck (both can be corrected). The Heller and derivitives are all in need of cutting the tub loose so the body can be painted better as well as new tires. You also will have to leave the engine out as it is virtually impossible to cram in there.
Fisher had planned on doing the 917K a long time ago. I wish he had. LeMans Miniatures are nice but lack any engine detail over that of Fujimi. Profil24 had a nice engine but the tube frame is not the best in the world. Oh well...
I'm going to stick with my half dozen Fujimi's with HRM engines, S27 PE, Renaissance tails, Hiro tires, and my Fisher long tails, and not to forget my Profil24 longtail.

Now that you asked for it:
1. Work on the Alpine has started again. I've managed to finally find new clear parts as I messed up the original ones.
I'm open for suggestion as how I could replicate the very thin chrome strip on the rubber gaskets of the windshields. I tried with BMF and the result was that I had to bin the part.
I still need to find or scratchbuild 4 spark plugs in order to wire the engine. And with this it should be finished! :D
2. The BMW Alpina B6 has been stripped after the paint cracks showed and is already in primer.
3. I'm rebuilding a Ferrari F2000 too.
4. There's also the stalled full detail Gunze Alfa 2000 GTAm, but I'll get back to it as soon as I finish the other started projects as it's a bit more complex.
4. I'm half way through a secret project that I should unveil in a month or so.
Why I do plan for new projects? It's easier to plan when I have very little time to build. In fact it's easier to plan than to do anything else! :D
How's the Lotus 25 doing?!

Also, Renaissance is going to produce a full detail engine kit for the 917. Not sure when and what the price will be.

I envy you, you're in a pretty good position, I'll need at least 3 more days per week in order to get a couple hours to build something at this moment. :(
