I have a 99 caravan 3.3 that cuts out and backfires through aircleaner when I step on gas hard at all. Idles pretty good. was put on scan tool and the mechanic said that it said "multiple cylinder misfire" so he said he thought it was coil. I changed coil made no difference. Im thinking it might be the computer, does that sound likely?

Welcome to AF
How many miles on vehicle??
What was the actual code number?? DO the key dance and report back the code number. Igntion switch on/off, on/off, on within 5 seconds without starting engine, watch your odometer for code #'s.
How long since a tune up has been done?? (spark plugs, wires)
When it is dark outside start your engine and watch for any spark jumping from the spark plug wires. Usually a tune up will help with this problem.
Possible cam or crankshaft sensor problem but not likely. The ECM in my opinion would be the last part to be the fault.
Go to the free online manuals and choose your vehicle, that will help you understand the compotents operations.
Also do a search on this forum using multiple misfire and there should be threads that will be informational for you.

Multiple misfire is a P0300. As tempfixit stated there are other possibilities before you get to a bad PCM. Here's more info: http://www.obd-codes.com/p0300

My friend with the same van had the same problem, he would be driving and then the van would cut out. It turned out to be a spark plug wire that had rubbed overtime and started to ground itself from time to time. he had a tune up done (wires and plugs) and the van runs fine now. good luck.
