When I shift from 2nd to 3rd and from 4th to 5th the gears grind and sometimes kick the shifter out of gear. Is this a syncronizer problem or something else? Can anyone shed a little light on the subject?

Welcome to AF!
You are right. It is a syncronizer problem. Try double clutching to see if it shifts better. Not sure if you know what double clutching is. 1. You push in the clutch. 2. Put it into neutral. 3. Let out the clutch. 4. Push in the clutch again and shift into gear. Double clutching gets the gears turning at the same speed before you shift. If it doesn't grind double clutching I'm fairly certain your syncronizers are bad.

I never thought to try that. Thank you for the help. Would you have any idea how much it might cost for parts?

You will have to call the dealer for this. I suspect about $30 each. The parts won't be much, but the labor will be intensive.
