2.4L Engine Interchange

I have a 2000 Alero that has a bad 2.4 engine. So I found a low mileage 2.4 from a 1999 Pontiac Sunfire. Just wondering if this engine will work in my Alero? Ive heard something about the older engines dont have an EGR? But I could be wrong. Thanks
