93 Regal AC question

have a 93 regal. Strange AC problem. Have had the problem for a few years. Soemtimes the AC will work and sometimes not. Sytem is charged, and when it does work, it's ice cold. When it does not work, it blows super hot air, hotter than what the heater could even put out in the winter. Almost feels like pure engine heat. Compressor kicks on, but it decides wheether it's going to put out hot air or cold air. Have checked connections etc. Wondering if there is some sort of valve somewhere that is not opening or closing. I can hear vacuum doors moving when I work the controls, but have no idea where to locate valves or doors to troubleshoot. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.

When it is hot- look at the temp door actuator and motor and lever arm- behind glove box-- does it move when commanded? from hot to cold?
Pukll glove box open and release it to see in behind...

it sounds like you have partially clogged orifice filter. It is located in-line on the hi-pressure side, and can cause intermittent A/C operation.

thanks for that info. I pulled the glovebox and saw the multiple actuators. Checked all vacuum connections. They all move when I swith from heat to AC to defrost, to vent etc. I monitored all of their movements. The one thing I do not see is any movement when sliding the temp switch from cold to hot. It's a slider button and sometimes I get cold AC and othertimes, blowtorch heat, but it mostly just stays in whatever mode it is in. Actually, it will go from cold to hot ok, but once it gets to hot, it is very hard to get cold air blowing again by sliding it to cold. That may be where the problem is. Any idea what that particular sliding button controls? I see none of the vacuum actautor levers move when I slide this back and forth. Maybe it controls something else?
Thanks Again
