Beside the Nissan GT-R I was already building, I'm starting a new project.

It's the Revell VW BUS UN, but I'll made my own version of it with a German Look.

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/inhoud_012_%28Medium%29~2.jpg

This is what's inside the kit:

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/inhoud_006_%28Medium%29~9.jpg

The silly original rims, will be replaced by some Porsche 911 Turbo FUCHS wheels. I already painted the center black.

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/inhoud_008_%28Medium%29~7.jpg

And a quick dryfit tells me this looks OLDSKOOL :bigthumb:

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/inhoud_010_%28Medium%29~6.jpg

The Color will be Light Gun Metal for the body. The roof will be Semigloss Black (i think). The interior will be simple, but don't know what color it will be.

Looks great for a "civil" ver. like the one you are doing! :) I can see it has an engine too.

Yesterday I made a start at the bus.

First I removed the moldinglines, scribed out the panellines and cleaned the trunkdoor. Some putty was needed so I had to sand the body again.

Than it was time for some primer and photos.

And a dryfit with the wheels :) This Primergray looks very nice I think but the color shown in the first post will be much better.

I hope to paint it as soon as possible.

Hi there,

looks like an ambitious project. Just two things I want to point my finger on:

1. The trunk door looks crooked (as on every other iteration of the Revell T3)
2. The stance is waaay too low. Would look a lot more realistic if you add an inch or two to the suspension, IMO.

Waiting for updates...

Hi,

just 2 answers for you:

1. the trunk door isn't crooked, but it was a dryfit with some maskingtape so it's a bit crappy.
2. The stance is not waaaay to low this is how most V-dubs are lowered. And this is also a dryfit as you can see.

Today I painted the body. After 3 layers I was happy with the result and let it dry :)

I also painted the roof, but this one in semigloss black.

Maybe I add some decals on it, but I think I leave it like this.

Very nice colour. I like the combination of the black roof and wheel centers.

this is how most V-dubs are lowered.
I´m a VW-fan myself and visited several meetings in my life, but i have to agree with Sebastian. Don´t know what it is like in the Netherlands, but in Germany the Police would shut down your T3 at once. If it wasn´t for the ride height itself, than at least because the front wheels are not steerable anymore. :loser:
If you want to have it realistically, i also think it is too low. But after all it is your model and your taste, of course. :smokin:

Yesterday I looked in my decal spare box, but I had no cool decals for the VW.

But lucky me found in a Chevy Pickup kit some very nice decals, which suits the VW perfect :D

This is how it looks now :)

I had finally some time to post some pics of the polished body.

Unfortunatly the decals are a bit silvering but the light for photographing show it more than in real life.

Though I like it, and I'm going to build it further. I always have this problem by Gun Metal paint, even when I add a clearcoat before the decals.

Anyway.... here are the pics:

Hi Kris!

This youngtimer bus is looking better and better.

Looking at the decals you´ve chosen. Why not make it more of a US style bus with the orange indicators on the sides and lots of chrome detailing around the windows and trim and such, just a suggestion:wink:. Since you want to go very low it would be appropriate. Many US dubs have the stance dialled and a killer low ride, lower than german style even. :)

Just a couple of questions, what materials do you use for polishing? and how long do you leave the TS-13 before sanding and polishing?

Keep it up, its gonna look dubalishious!

Cheers!

Hi Emil,

I don't know what style I'm going to do now. That american DUB is also great, but I think I leave it a bit oldskool with this german look. Chrome detailing around the windows must be done with BMF and I always use BMF before the clearcoat, so it's to late for that. Maybe for my next VW Bus :)

For polishing the body I use the Micromesh Polishing Kit. I bought it at Hiroboy for about 14 euro. Than you get various sandingpads from grit 100 till 12000. I alway start with grit 3000 or 3400 because most of the time I have already a smooth paintjob. Than I wetsand the body with all the leftover pads till 12000.
After sanding you already see a bit of shine, but there are some little scratches which needs to be polished out. Therefore I use the Polishing compounds from Tamiya. First I use the Red one. This is the roughest of all. Than I use the Blue one. This makes a nice shine and the scratches will dissapear. Finally I use the White one. This is for the finish.
I alway add some carwax also on the body, because I have the body a lot of times in my hands and fingerprints will be wiped away easy when the body is waxed.

After using TS-13 or an other clearcoat I always wait for 6 or 7 days. Sometimes longer but that's because I have no time than :D

Hope this will help you.

Kris.:)

The box cover looks like a joke, but this is coming along well. Too bad you don't have a spare VR6 laying around.

I've a vr6 engine laying around here, but it's from the Fujimi Golf 3 and it is very bad. It's just an half engine which is only molded half. So it's worthless I think.

I've another T3 kit, and I'm planning to add an old Porsche boxer engine instead of the original engine.

But that's for the future....

I wasn't satisfied with the silvering on the decals, so i had to do something radical :D

Instead of a shiny good looking van, I decided to add some damage and rust on the body.

I first bought some real rust stuff.

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/roest_010_%28Medium%29.jpg

The base coat is a thick paint with metal. This must be drying for about 12 hours before you can add the solution on it. The more solution you add, the more rust you get.

I made some damage with a knife and fire on the body. After that I sanded the body to make it flat, and added the base coat on it.

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/roest_009_%28Medium%29.jpg

Meanwhile the solution is doing his work. The rust is very realistic and one of the best (but expensive) i've ever seen!

It was a while ago I did some work on this model, but I also enjoy fishing on big carp at the moment :)

Meanwhile I did some work on the chassis. The chassis is modified to fit the bigger Fuchs wheels and I needed to lower it of course. It can't be slammed to the ground because else the wheels will come in the interior, and I have no place for my seats anymore .... :)

After painting it all, I did some rust job on it too. I also used a lot of smoke paint for the engine and exhaust.

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/interieur_001_%28Medium%29~6.jpg

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/interieur_002_%28Medium%29~6.jpg

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/interieur_003_%28Medium%29~6.jpg

The body needed some indicator lights and some wipers.

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/interieur_004_%28Medium%29~5.jpg

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/interieur_005_%28Medium%29~5.jpg

The engine was also finished. I used some smoke to create a dirty engine with a lot of oil. You might have seen one in real life... they always leak oil :D

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/interieur_006_%28Medium%29~5.jpg

Today I started with the interior. Main parts were painted black. The carpet is antracit.

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/interieur_008_%28Medium%29~4.jpg

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/interieur_009_%28Medium%29~4.jpg

I replaced the seats by luxery seats and painted the other seats as well.

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/interieur_010_%28Medium%29~4.jpg

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/interieur_012_%28Medium%29~3.jpg

Painted the dash, and added the decals. Nothing special.

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/interieur_011_%28Medium%29~4.jpg

Now the interior was ready, I found it a little boring. This service bus needed some interiorjunk, so I searched for some parts. The tools are from Hobby Design. I added some sexy magazines and a pizza box. The pizza slices are scratchbuilded
