Vacuum leak - 2.4L

1996 GA SE 2.4L 4cyl

The engine idle surges when the car is not warmed up.

I'm leaning toward a vacuum problem.

1. Could someone lead me to the common spots where I might be losing vacuum so I don't have to look EVERYWHERE! And,

2. What else should I be looking at?

Could be around the intake, or one of the main hoses coming off of it.
It also could be your IAC, but didnt you already work on that ?

Nope. Give me the lowdown.

Hey, I was reading all about the IAC last night, and something I read was interesting.

It said the the ECM adjusts the IAC over time based upon the wear of the engine and spark plugs and stuff so that each time you start it remembers what it had to do last time to keep the car idling correctly.

However, if you take out the battery (which we did for a long period of time while we were working on this car), it loses all of that and has to re-learn it.

Since this just started happening after we tore the car apart, I wonder if it might be something that will just "go away" after a few drive cycles?

It very well might stop doing it since you had the battery disconnected. Though usualy after the IAC is set it'll always return to that unless its messed with.

Usualy a cleaning of the port and the IAC and things clear up.
