Spark plugs with engine oil

I have a 1998 dodge neon. Recently I found engine oil gone quickly but no leakage found and radiator water has no oil. since last week, the Service Engine Soon light is on and then off. Checked in AutoZone and was recommended change the spark plugs. Tonight I changed those four spark plugs but I was surpprised that three of them have lots of engine oil on them. I remembered that there was no engine oil on spark plugs when I changed my another car's spark plugs.

Is this a big problem? it will require rebuild the engine?

thanks,

There are little seals on each spark plug tube. most likely they are leaking letting oil get on the spark plugs.

For about $25 and about 30 mins and you can fix the leak.

I have the same problem. If the leak is at the top, the rubber seals on the manifold cover need replace, $3.50 each, if at the bottom the metal tube needs to be replaced, $4 each, you'll also of course have to change the manifold gasket.

SCO1; I think you mean 'valve' cover or 'camshaft' cover, rather than manifold.

By the way - What if you just put the spark plugs back in after soaking the excess oil out with paper towels. Do the spark plugs care about the oil leaking into the plug-tube? I've never heard of it causing plugs to misfire - so it doesnt seem to be any harm.

I had one that the tube came out with the plug wire and had oil in it. I removed the rocker cover pulled the tube cleaned it and the head. Then I applied locktight to the tube and reinstalled everything.
