Good luck! I've always liked this car, but the kit scared me. Its like the Monogram Lotus Esprit...too many mistakes and fitment problems.

Do you have a picture of the box?
I'm wondering how this differs from the regular 'bug'.

The Heller kit is also available as an Airfix rebox (or the Heller may be the re-box...).
http://www.geocities.jp/d_force_net/Car/AIRFIX/06420.JPG

The previously mentioned Monogram kit is the same kit as the Revell kit

There is a very brief comparison here (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=695688&highlight=bugatti) made while both were still being built.

I've since more or less (kinda, sorta) finished the grey (Revell/Monogram) one. I can get some better comparison pictures up if anyone's interested.

Thanks.
I thought there was a GT version from your heading.
Looks like Bugatti had all the kit companys mold the body in blue and had them put just blue cars on the boxes too.

Thanks.

ahhh, I get what you're saying now.
Actually, the heading is correct.
The kits are all GT versions of the car; the other version is the SS that you were thinking of.

And I thought that the Revellogram Bugatti was awful! Had to take a break from it, just for the sake of my mental wellfare. Hope you will not give up.

This is how mine looks at the moment:

the hardest thing to replicate about these cars, is the metal grill that is in the tail-lights.

Photo etched parts looks to be the only realistic solution.

drunken monkey
05-07-2009, 08:45 AM
It's probably too small for photoetch.
If you take a look at the kit's rear light lens, the etched lines are a good match for the real grill and is in all likelihood, over-scaled.
I can't see any way to make any sort of facsimile of the metal grill using any medium.

I toyed with the ideal of deepening the etches in the plastic and flowing thinned paint into it but my hands ain't built for that sort of precision.

jano11
05-07-2009, 08:59 AM
In this case the only solution is to contact Intel and ask them to use their micro technology to lay down the pattern in those rear light lenses! :D

Seriously, what is the smallest detail dimension that can be obtain through etching process using the thinnest available metal sheet (or foil)?

actually, I would say the best thing to do may be to deepen the light fitment area, cut out a piece of clear acetate to fit perfectly, paint in the colour onto the acetate and fix the kit clear part over the acetate making sure that the two don't touch.

If that makes any sense....

What I mean is, make a little noticable gap between the coloured lights and the kit clear light part. After all, the kit part represents the outer cowling and not the lights themselves.
