i am currently in the process of rebuilding a 1970 chevelle ss with a 454 it is an automatic, when i bought it there were no headers, i am trying to find out which brand is the bes for my engine and how much HP the will add

The "best" is a relative term. It is accepted, where "stock" engines are in place, Hooker is the best. If sheer power is your goal, SuperComps. If you're more looking for economy and some "snap", "Comps" are adequate.

Doug's is another brand that has regained popularity of late. Mad Dog is another. These are both very good.

Buy the headers uncoated and have them shipped to a coating company. The ceramic coating header companies apply will not last very long. We use Thermal Tech in Hopewell, Virginia, partly because they're the best, partly because they're close! Jet Hot and Swain are two others with good products.

Depending on the rest of the engine combination, you can look for anywhere from 5-7% all the way up to 11 or 12%. The more the engine is modified, the more the increase from a good set of headers will be.
