Sad Sad Sad!!
When is GM going to learn that cutting factories, jobs and production will not make them profitable? The only way they're going to make it is to build something people want to buy, right here in the good ole US of A! Bean counters should never be allowed to run a car company, GM and Chrysler are both proof of that.
I still don't understand why they don't eliminate GMC. Make all trucks Chevy's, that way they can take the top selling truck title away from Ford, and eliminate all the extra cost of the trim pieces required to make both Chevy and GMC versions of the exact same vehicle.
If any GM car division should get the axe it's Buick. There are only 3 models now, the Lacross, Lucerne and Rainier (which is being phased out) and it no longer has it's niche. It steals luxury car buyers from Cadillac and snobby cheapskates from Chevrolet. At least Pontiac has/had an image, and appeals to young buyers looking for something sporty looking. GM executives are a bunch of overpaid retards!!!!!

Unfortunately the GM exec's have no f**in clue. Lets get rid of a division that makes a decent amount of money. I think that this might be the last nail in the coffin for GM as a company?

Yes I am very saddened by this news. Feel like going out and buying up a couple more Pontiacs since they are going to be collectors items. Love my 2008 Pontiac Grand Prix GXP crimson red. 8 cylinders all mine! Hope I can still get it serviced properly when needed.

Luckily your car shares many parts with other GM models, so parts availability should not be an issue.

Rich, guess I should look on the bright side, parts available, but this is so sad! Isn't anyone as heartbroken as I am? No more new Pontiacs? My first car I bought with my own money, all cash, was a barely used 1974 Pontiac LeMans, 2 door, dark blue metallic with a light blue top. Very cool for a young girl to drive. Then when I got older with a family, I got a bright red 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix GT 4-door. It was a cool and sporty family car. When that was totalled just last year by an idiot driver who ran a red light, I went out and bought a new 2008 Grand Prix GXP crimson red 4 door. Figured replace my beloved GP with exactly what I like - another GP! Day is done, gone the sun....

I am heartbroken too. From their version of the minivan, to the solstice, I thought they had the coolest vehicles. I'll never forget the Trans am with the 455 SD. Wow!

I recall we went through the same when GM axed Oldsmobile. And Olds was the more historical division. It really doesn't make any difference anymore. Pontiacs will live on in the afterlife.
It looks like Toyota will number 1 in the U.S. soon. Speaking of which I can't stand looking at Camrys. :twak:

The Camry is so vanilla, it should be available in an off-white paint scheme with brown flecks in it!
The cancelling of Pontiac is just another page in the GM has no clue tome. When Pontiac outsold Buick almost 3-1 last year, and GM continues to waste resources building both Chevy and GMC trucks (which are mechanically identical, only trim pieces differentiate them), you gotta wonder where their heads are (although I have a pretty good idea!).
I live in a GM town (one that has been decimated by GM's bad decisions BTW), and have owned nothing but GM cars my whole life. With the demise of Pontiac and the lackluster models they currently build, that will probably change.

There is one thing GM should stop, give their CEOs bonuses and they do not need them. That is one way to save money.GM will not do it.GM should of got rid of Saturn instead, not big money maker.Pontiac came out with ugliest car model, the Aztec and it is butt ugly. Some of Chevy and GMC's body parts are not indentical on the fullsize trucks,1999 and up.

Regardless of how ugly it was (which I agree is the ugliest thing GM ever built), the Aztek sold suprisingly well so that's a moot point.

Exterior trim pieces such as grills/headlamps and subtle differences in fenders and such is exactly what I was referring to (not to mention badging and interior pieces and such). There is not one mechanical difference between the two brands, so why continue to produce both on the same assembly line?

The hoods are differant too on a 99 and up Chevy and GMC fullsize truck. One of my father's friends tried to put a bug guard for a 2002 Chevy on a 2002 GMC,would not fit and took it back ordering the right one.The Chevy and GMC are differant

How many parts do you deal with for these vehicles per day? I'm telling you they are mechanically identical, do you not understand what the term "trim pieces and subtle differences in fenders and such" means?
Secondly, in 2002, the hoods for the GMC model are different depending on if it was Mexican (GM#88979660) or US (12477699) built, so know your facts before you chime in smart@$$.

I've had 7 Pontiacs, and yes, I'm in mourning. I've watched GM's demise slowly over the last couple of decades, and it's been very painful. Those idiots running the company just couldn't get out of there own way. You can credit the current administration for the final knife through the heart too.
I have a feeling I bought my last GM car. Sad.

Personally, I prefer the GMC to the Chevrolet anyday and also the Pontiac. As I've said before, how exciting are the names G3, G5, G8 compared to Grand Prix, Bonneville, and GTO?
When a company sells more vehicles in it's history each year and still loses billions, there's something wrong with that picture and it's not the cars.

The main reason GM has decided to keep Buick instead of Pontiac is the Buick brand is a hot commodity in China ! Apparently the Chinese love Buick's and there are lots of potential sales there that GM doesn't intend to lose ! So their decision is based on greed , not logic or tradition. :disappoin

Yeah, I read that too. Just give Tiger Woods a G8. And rename it to something more inspiring than "G8" while at it. They'll buy 'em up over there like hot dogs. And I do mean hot dogs.
