My daughter's college car is a 2001 Grand Am 2.4 liter. Parked car at resturant and didn't start after meal. I checked fuel by spraying starting fluid in breather and car started and ran off fluid, but won't run on it's own. I figured fuel pump because I couldn't hear it when key is turned on. Dropped tank and installed new fuel pump. No start ! Sprayed starter fluid again and it started, but won't run on it's own again. Changed fuel filter near tank in rear. Black fluid came out of old one. This didn't fix it either. Traced fuel line to front but no inline bleeder valve was found. Pump is working, because I unscrewed line from filter ad turned key on and flooded under the car with gas, but don't seem to get gas up front at the motor. :screwy::crying::disappoin What's up with this thing?

Car won't start. Will start and run on starter fluid. Changed fuel pump and filter. Won't start still. Is there a fuel shut off switch on this car? 2.4L

No
What is your fuel pressure?
Do you have 12v power on your gray wire at pump?

pump has great pressure, but when I changed filter black liquid came out. I know filter was near clogged, but even with new one I still can't get it started. Line blockage maybe????? Car was running fine, after my daughter shut it off and got back in later, it wouldn't start. I know pressure is good at pump, because I took metal line off of filter and had her to turn key to on position, and nearly flooded the ground with gas. How could I check if gas is flowing to injectors up front ?

No need to start a new thread on the same topic Ive merged your two threads.
Did you check the fuses and relay associated with the fuel system, Injectors, FP, etc ?
Is the security light on or flashing when its running ?
The black fuel coming out is from overfilling the gas tank. The excess fuel goes into the carcoal evap canister and drains back into the tank. Very well could have something else goin wrong at this point.
And just because the fuel runs out the metal line doesnt always mean the pumps working. Do you hear it running at all ??
You can test your injectors with a noid light, which most part stores carry for cheap.
They should also read 11.4-12.6 ohms when tested acrossed the injector terminal(s).
Hope that helps!
