Drum Brake Adjustment

I replaced the rear drum brakes and wheel cylinder on my 2002 Pontiac Montana about three months ago. The rear brakes are squealing a bit when I stop, but not every time. I suspect that I need to adjust the rear brakes by turning the star on the adjuster. My problem is I don't remember which way to turn the star. I have the rubber stopper out and know how to adjust, just don't remember whether to turn it down or up.

Thought about spraying some silicon spray in through the hole while i had it open. What do you think?

i dought adjustment is your problem if they were adjusted when they were installed.cleaning may help(brake dust)what brand of shoe??were drums machined??everything greased?

They were adjusted properly when I installed everything. I did grease everything and sprayed some of the silicon spray on the moving parts. Cleaning may just be the deal. I will check things out. Was just hoping to not have to remove the wheel and drum. Thanks
