Guys,
Co-Worker challenged me to a drag (loser buys the first 6-pk).
He's got a newer (newest body style) Mitsu Eclipse. He said it has a 3.8 V6 twin cam. Its got low miles and is a manual.
I've taken 90's eclipses with turbo's before (even when I was stock). Never had the opportunity to line up next to one like his.
How do you think I'll stack up next to him? We both just want to go out and give it a shot to see how it goes.
I told him I would just after I get my LIM gaskets changed, so its looking like its almost time.
Keeping my mods in mind, plus when I do my LIM gaskets, I'll also add a ported and polished LIM, some new plugs and a 3.4" ZZP MPS. Do I stand a chance?

You think so? I'm a bit worried about the fact his motor is the same size with DOHC and he's got a manual all in a smaller car.

What specific model is this and what year Tim? What are the stock 1/4 and 0-60 mph specs on it. Some of those mid 90s Eclipses with turbo are really quick. My son raced a few late model Eclipse GS-T 5 speed and GT 5 speed with his modded Alero and blew their doors off. I don't race riceburners so I wouldn't know. :grinno:
Here are his confirmed kills:
2009 Nissan Maxima 3.5 SV
Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V (6spd)
Acura RSX Type S (6spd)
Mitsubishi Eclipse GS-T (5spd)
Mitsubishi Eclipse GT (2003) (5spd)
Honda Prelude VTEC (5spd)
Honda Civic Si VTEC (5spd)
Acura Integra GSR VTEC (5spd)
Pontiac Grand Am GT (RAM AIR)

Not exactly sure what the trim level is.
I did look up 0-60 and quarter mile times on a a stock 2000 GTP and 2006 Eclipse, they are:
Eclipse 0-60 5.8, 1/4 mile 14.4
GTP 0-60 6.8, 1/4 mile 15.1
Looks like a stock eclipse has me. So I'm hoping that my mods give me the advantage. Its going to be a close one.

You guys are funny! Maybe I should just lose, buy him a case, and then take your guys'. :evillol:
Your all so confident in me and my GTP. I'm just afraid I'll rip the trans apart. Even though I have the MOD's, I baby the crap out of that car.

His car is probably only 300lbs lighter. I'm not 100% but look it up. His manual gives him more chance of error.
I baby my car but sometimes she has to get out there and remind me why I chose her!

I'd loan you my Nitto drag radials if we were close by but not the case.

Thanks for the offer Bob, Thats what I'm worried about too is hooking up. But then again, we both are going to have to deal with that and my car is heavier so I might have the advantage there :sunglasse
We'll see, It might not even happen. I'm going to get my gaskets changed and plugs, and probably a fuel and air filter, and then montior fuel trim to make sure its running ok before I do anything.

Please just be careful Tim, be safe and watch out for law enforcement. For example street racing in my area will land you in jail and get your car impounded. :uhoh:

In IL the car is for the police to keep, and if it is a very fast car they will use it as an under cover car.

Eclipses are quicker than you may think. The newest Eclipses produce more hp than a 99-04 Mustang GT to put it somewhat in perspective. Both are FWD so both will be burning off the line. Depends on the driver. With an auto you are going to get a lot more consistant times. With a manual, they can be quicker. However, with a bad driver at the wheel of a manual even the fastest car can be be not the fast.

Ahh, come on Bob. :D Us poor littel riceburners can sometimes produce more than 100hp. But then agian, from that kill list it looks like you probably don't know that. :cwm27: Have anything that does better than a 15 second 1/4 (minus the GS-T)? Of course, I kid. Only one true way to find out man...just go our and race him and regardless be safe.
PS: Bob may or may not ban me for such blasphemy.

Thay impound the car? Wow.
We've got a 4 lane highway with stoplights right next to work. I think if we both work late one night, we'll be able to line up at a red light. Of course for me it will only be a quick 0-70 topps. If I'm ahead after 70mph or if he's ahead, I'm letting off. Not worth a ticket or a smashed up car.

The reason is you get arrested because it is a zero tolerance offense Class B misdemeanor to start and may bump up higher to a Class A or or even felony depending on whether there is an accident, injury or death. So the car gets impounded for a short while or after you post bail. That is why street racing is really not worth it at least in the State of Texas.
I don't know if this will help but lighten the load. Thats what I do at the strip which is applicable to the street. Get rid of the tire changing tools and spare tire. 1/4 tank or less of gas. You can even remove the rear passenger seat cushions. Also, make sure traction control is off or pull the ABS fuse because it could still activate even with the switch off. Practice launches to get the hole shot because that is where this race will be won or loss.
