I have been reassembling a Pontiac 400, and have been trying to figure out where to bolt the heat shield that wraps around the wires that go from the battery to the starter. Thanks.

Pete,
Are you talking about the tube the cable runs through to avoid the exhaust manifold? If so, there should be a "studded" head bolt in the 4th one back (one of the "short" bolts) on the left (driver's) side. The loop goes over the stud and is secured with a 3/8-16 nut. If it's a Ram Air engine, it's different. The tube attaches to the back of the head and the cable "sneaks in" under the back of the manifold.

That was what I was talking about. Thanks. I couldn't figure out how to get it to fit on there, but knowing that that is where it should go, I'll find a way. Maybe the tab got bent on the heat shield.
