Blower speed 3 is not working

Hey everyone! I'm from Estonia (that's a small European country) and I have a 1999 Chevrolet Alero (that's identical to US Oldsmobile with different logos) and, therefore, I face the same problems as you guys - bad wheel bearing, blower resistor etc. The car itself is not bad at all (I spent about 300 bucks on it last 2 years), but now I have a new problem. Yesterday my blower resistor was replaced, so speeds 1 and 2 now work just fine. The odd thing is that the third speed doesn't work anymore (I have been using it for quite a while), but speeds 4 and 5 work perfectly. Is there another resistor that is responsible for the third speed?

Welcome to AF.
No the same blower motor resistor is used.
BTW - We had another member from Europe with a Chevrolet Alero and he even posted pics of it which was very interesting.

Thanks for your reply. Why did the third speed work before when I had a dead resistor? After replacing it the first two speeds got back so I presume that something else died. Is there another resistor in the fuse box or somewhere else? Mine looked like something like this: http://www.wildweasel.ca/HowTo/Auto/J-Body/images/blowerresistor/52476725.jpg
There are a lot of fuses. May these be the cause?

The link to your pic isn't working. From what I can see it still looks like a resistor issue. You sure the one installed isn't defective? Another possibility is wiring from the climate control head unit to the resistor so check that. There are no other relevant fuses since most of it is working.

Could possible that the resistor that you got was bad too. I've heard of brand new parts being bad out of the box. Since they aren't THAT expensive you might want to try and replace it again and see if that does the trick. :iceslolan
