2004 Lancer!!!

Hello you all. I'm a newbie here...and yea I only turned 16, but I'm a dedicated rally fan. So, I found these pictures on the 'net of the 2004 Mitsubishi Ralliart Lancer (which will hit U.S. shores this fall). It packs a 160hp engine, along with a not-so-impressive exterior styling . :bloated: However, I think it will a be a great car for those who want the EVO, but can't afford one. Heck, the rear end looks somewhat like an EVO (to the untrained eye, that is :p). So what do you think about this car???

Here's the rear end. EVO VII-ish, right??? Well, just exclude the crappy spoiler (IMO) then it will look more EVO VII-ish.

The only Evo VII it looks remotely like are the GT-A's with those awful altezza style tails. If anything it looks closer to the styling of the 8.
At any rate, yeah. It's a 2.4l 4g64 MIVEC engine that'll be released on the Ralliart Edition (if not on all models) along with stiffer suspension and some other odds and ends. My first (and only) response on this car is, "Ain't no 0.4 liters worth lookin' like that".

Damn man, this car should be for a company like Kia, damn its fugly. What is Mitsubishi thinking? Firstly, Mitsu know they have a lot of competition from Subaru, and they are losing the battle with a gay looking and basically crapper (IMO) in all areas Evo VIII, then they decide to go downhill.
Damn what is happening with carmakers? So many carmakers decide to make ugly cars, even Toyota make some ugly cars, along with BMW. Seems to me that if you want a decent looking car, then you have to pay loads. :(

Well, I'm willing to bet they'll outhandle and outdrive most anything in the same class, but I think it's just ugly enough to make it worth tuning a lesser car for the same/slightly more money and having a better handling, better looking car. ...unless you're really attached to that "warranty" thing that so many people seem to care about.

That is possibly the ugliest thing 'Bishi have ever released ?
I dont think the back end looks anything like any Evo [altho I've not seen the VIII yet] but it looks alot like the current run of Galant VR-4s ?

See the tails. Mitsubishi seems hell bent on putting that (imo) horrible grille on all their models now. :bloated:

I quite like the Evo Grilles [it's only really a little spot to fit the grille-badge on them] but the one on the original Lancer above is hideous, I agree !

Im just glad that its the US lancer, AKA the Japanese Cedia, the real lancer as sold to the rest of the world while looking similar Im sure will be much a better looker. It should have none of those bulging bumbers, or exagerated frount grill.
(Note the EVO VIII is based on the Cedia, not the Lancer)

Same chassis. We share just about everything with the Cedia (one variant or another) cept the powerplant and drivetrain. Oh, and they have shorter F/R bumpers cuz of their comparatively lax crash standards.

Arn't they pics of the Ralliart version? hence the large over sized bumbers.
Im assumeing the lower spec versions will have more conservitive look.
And I do wonder about the angle of the photos, its not hard to make a car look bad with a bad camera angle. (its also just as easy to make a car look better than it really does)

I've seen plenty of other pics of it too. All ugly. I think the grille alone is one thing, but the new headlight design is awful.
I'll try to dig em up. :)

Are you sure its the Cedia? and not simply a restyled Lancer?
The Cedia is a little bit bigger than the Lancer, its not obvious but if you sit them next to each other it becomes very clear.
Or is the ES a sports version? sort of a baby EVO in the same vane as the hotted up Daimante's.
We of course have the Cedia here as the EVO VIII. :)

Thanks for all the comments, guys. Personally, I think the car is ugly too. I guess this is the approach of Mitsubishi. However, it's not very appealing to the buyers. And yes, America receives crappy, watered down cars that are fit only for 50 year old grannies. Thanks Moppie, for giving me advice on my other thread. Here's a rear view of the VIII for comparison purposes. At a certain distance, I still think they look quite similar.

Nah, the ES is the Cedia, looks just like the EVO7 but much uglier.
Has a short fat nose and the 2l crappy engine making 92KW or something like that. Very ugly.
Do u live in Aus or NZ?

Just look at that 6 above, and compare it to the 8 and future 9. What has Mitsu done? Why do they have to sell the car in USA?! Now the Evo is ruined!

If it weighs less than 2,500 lbs, it's good enough for me. Does it have the 4G63???

integra818, it will most likely have the 4g93.

Its interesting that Mitsi in Aus would sell what effectivly are two differnt cars (the Cedia being bigger) badged as the same car.
I wonder why they didnt just go go for a higher spec 4dr Lancer, or prehaps they decieded the Cedia would be a better fit for the "larger" Australian frame :p
and Im in NZ who ever asked.

Not at all!
The US gets a slightly differnt spec car to the rest of the world, so nothing is lost, but instead the world gains the parts and knowledge from US tuning companies.
It means a wider variety of parts to choose from, and more compition in the market which should drive prices down (the Japanese tuner parts are always over priced) and more gains from the parts.
