99 Taurus radio that has no display and no sound, all other radio lights work just not in the display, have checked all fuses on the panel and under the hood, have replaced actual unit three times and all with the same luck, none, though all units were used and supposedly worked
have read previous posts about the same problem but no success stories,if anyone can help with the silence i would be grateful

Welcome to the forum!
The sound is actually provided via the Rear Control Unit (RCU) and not the dash unit. So you might have two issues, something causing the display to not work, and something with the RCU preventing sound. If you insert a tape or CD do they seem to spin and eject fine? Do the replacement units work for a short time, or not at all upon installation? Do you have the pinout to verify you have power and ground where you need power and grounds? The button illumination is from the dimmer and independent of the radio power circuits.

It definitely sounds like you're missing power to the deck. That helps narrow things down. I'll take a look at the wiring diagrams for the deck this weekend and try to post them for you.
As for the RCU, that's probably irrelevant at this time, but it is located on the driver's side of the trunk, near the floor. It will be behind/underneath the trunk liner on the driver's side.
