My mechanic said there is a GM recall on the Buick 3.8 supercharged motor for leaking valve cover gaskets setting fire to the car. Anybody hear anything pretaining to this and which vehicles it affects? thanks ellis479

Click Here (http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/recalls/recallsummary.cfm?rcl_campaign_id=08V118000&prod_id=202906&moduletype=VEHICLE&make=BUICK&model=REGAL&veh_model_year=1997&searchtype=DrillDown) for the first recall on the 97-03 Regal & Grand Prix, no others cars were included.
There has not yet been a second recall! It is due sometime next month and is expected to include the following cars:
1997-2003 Buick Regal
2000-2003 Chevrolet Impala
1998-1999 Chevrolet Lumina
1998-2003 Chevrolet Monte Carlo
1998-1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue
1997-2003 Pontiac Grand Prix
There is a document issued by the NHTSA on the upcoming recall. All the NHTSA is requiring this time, is replacement retainers/clips as this will prevent the fire. On the recall last year, NHTSA required only the clips/retainer clips, but GM made the leaking gaskets a part of the recall as well, mostly for customer satisfaction. As mentioned, the recall won't be activated until next month, when GM will release the recall to the dealers and it will be known what they will all do. At a minimum they will install the retainer/clip things, but they might choose to replace the gaskets again along with the the retainers.
