Oil pan gasket?

My girlfriend just bout a 97 Pontiac Grand Prix GT with the 3.8L engine. It has a moderate oil leak, part of which is coming from the rear valve cover gasket, and oil pan gasket. The valve cover gasket isn't hard for me to change in my garage, but the oil pan gasket might be a problem. Any tips/ideas?

The oil pan gasket is not a easy DIY job. Due to the way the subframe is designed, you have to drop the engine cradle while supporting the engine from above to get it out. I would suggest having that done at a shop unless you have access to a hoist.

I agree with Rich, for safety reasons, if you dont know 100% what your doing, replacing the Oil pan gasket is better left to the pro's.

Also your car might be covered by a recent GM recall regarding leaky valve cover gaskets. I'm not sure if the most recent recall covers both front and rear valve cover gaskets or if its still just the front. Maybe what to look into it. Your local dealer could give you more info.
