I have a 2000 blazer, when i first start the vehicle i get a loud knock but then goes away after a few mins... and once in a while I will get a lower pitched "tick" that will last the length of a short trip to work. Any advice would be appreciated-Thank You

The knock at startup is usually a DIRTY oil problem.

I recommend using "GUNK" brand engine flush if you are not leaking oil. Just add a bottle of engine flush to a warm engine and allow it to idle for 10-15 minutes to dissolve out the crud and sludge in the engine. Remember, ONLY IDLE DO NOT REV THE ENGINE OR DRIVE THE TRUCK WITH THE FLUSH IN IT.

Also, I recommend putting on a new cheap fram filter while you are doing the flush so it catches all the crud coming out of the engine. The filter will be plugged in 30-40 minutes so it is best to have a fresh filter on there while doing it. Then drop the oil and the cheap filter and install your new oil and a good non-fram filter. Also note, to get all of the flush out, I recommend pouring a bit of fresh oil in while the drain plug is out to get all of the old oil out of the pan.

Now if you are me and you want to do a really GOOD FLUSH, drop the old oil before you do the flush and add 3 quarts of some bargain basement 10w30 in with the engine flush and the cheap filter so you get the best flush possible. Remember, you are only doing this once, so the extra $10 will go a long way. You will be amazing how dirty the new oil comes out with the flush. Then drain, and add the new filter and the new 5w30 oil with a little new oil in through the fill so you can get it all out of the pan like I stated earlier.

Well I just did an oil change and it was happening even after that. A flush still sounds like a good idea tho. But im afraid i have a small leak somewhere. I cant tell where its comming from but my splash guard and oil lines and some surrounding parts are always covered with oil. But it never seems to hit the ground. at least i dont notice it and the level stays good. Would it be bad to do this flush with a leak? and you say 3 qts of 1030... is 3 qts ok to run in it? or should i go 5...money isnt a big deal if thats why you said only 3...or was there another reason?

Yes, 3 quarts AND 1 Quart of Gunk brand Flush for a total of 4 quarts. If you just changed the oil, remove the existing filter and replace with a clean one, you will lose about a quart by dumping the filter, then add the flush. Don't over fill. Don't worry about the small leak, you are only flushing for 15 minutes then dumping the oil. Just Don't Rev the engine or drive the truck until you put fresh oil in after flushing.

My 2000 Jimmy did the EXACT SAME THING even after an oil change. The flush I described fixed the Problem. After I got rid of the Knock, I started using Mobil 1 Synthetic oil only and NEVER had another problem.

These trucks are notorious for leaking oil cooler lines. Wipe the oil lines clean and watch them especially where the rubber line connects to the aluminum tube.

Go to WWW.RockAuto.com (http://www.RockAuto.com) for new oil lines. Anywhere else you'll pay too much. They sell Dorman brand Lines and they are better than OEM.
